When is Povetkin going to learn from his mistakes?

After three victories against top rated opposition, Alexander Povetkin has shown some serious flaws in his style. When Larry Donald, Chris Byrd and Eddie Chambers can all hit him easily, isn't it about time for Povetkin deduce that he is doing something wrong? Last night we all saw Chambers snap is Povetkin's head back with a flush hit, imagine if that had been Klitschko? Admittedly it takes a good boxer to hit Povetkin, but it is not unreasonable to assume that the top boxers have good skills. He isn't moving his head properly and as a result he is getting hit despite the high work rate. Povetkin comes to fight and has a crowd pleasing style, and no doubt the crowd will be interested to find out if he can pick himself up from the canvass after Klitschko knocks him down. If Povetkin doesn't learn from his mistakes that is exactly what is going to happen.

Povetkin said after the fight that this was his hardest and most difficult fight yet and that he has to improve if he wants to face Klitschko. So i think he knows what he has to do, but the question is if he can really do it.

Yes, I saw that quote too. Although we shouldn't expect him to delineate his mistakes in a post fight press conference, nevertheless I wonder if he really understands what the problem is. Repeating his mistakes seems to be a habit, and so far there is no indication that he has made an effort to improve. I have the su****ion that his trainer does NOT know what Povetkin is doing wrong. They are so conditioned by that European style that they don't understand it's intrinsic flaws.

Yes, his trainer is a former amateurtrainer and trained Povetkin his whole career. I dont think Povetkin will change his style a lot cause he has fought that style his whole career, but i think he and his coach are clever enough to see that he has to improve several things, make some adjustments. In his past fights it wasnt as clear as in this fight, he had not much problems with byrd and Donald so of course they thought they dont have to change anything, especially against a guy like Chambers who seemed to be cheap version of Byrd. But against Chambers his weak defense was clear to see for everyone and Chambers suprised manny people. So maybe this fight was a wake up call. Maybe they need help from an etablished professional trainer.

Well, we can agree on that. I wonder if Kevin Rooney is sober enough to start training boxers again?

Another problems of Povetkin is, he only speaks russian. He only comes to germany to fight and to sparr, but unlike other boxers who fight for german promoters hes not living in germany, he wants to live in russia and nowhere else. So a german or an american trainer dont make sence, because i guess he will never understand or speak german and english well. Maybe he can understand some german words but i think he will never learn english.

The fans don't care where he lives and they don't even care what language he speaks. Manny Pacquaio couldn't speak English for most of his career, yet he has done alright. He has even improved his style over the years. The language barrier can be overcome. All Povetkin has to do is learn to move his head and I think that is well within his range of talent. Maybe he will never do it as well as Mike Tyson, but he can certainly improve on what he is doing now.
