Hey guys im new to the forum but im a boxer and i love following the sport....I jus saw the replay of Jones Trinidad last nite and i must say that i am impressed with Jones as of late....the hand speed is still there and the only thing i see lost in his arsenal is the footwork..but i believe that even at this point of his career he can beat hopkins..and calzaghe.

I don't think he could beat Cal, he very well may get his shot though, unless Jermain beats Kelly that is

I think he could beat hopkins rather easly, I honestly dont think itd be much different than the first time they fought, However ithink u drastically underestimate calzaghes skills. I have calzaghe at #3 p4p right now. I think he is going to dismantle hopkins and in my opinion he would beat jones even more 1 sidedly because at this point joe is faster than roy i think and roy isnt used to fighters being faster than him as well as more technically gifted and by the way welcome to the forum!

I think Joe should go for the legends, put the names on his list, go for B-Hop then for Jones and MAYBE Tarver in between those fights, those could be the 3 he fights before he retires, maybe Tarver or Trinidad, he will beat all of those guys as long as he sticks to the plan that has yet to fail him and thats wail away and be slick with his defense.. Jones however I say has the style to beat him, Trinidad does too but like I continuously repeat over and over he just has to let his hands go and punch with some umph, Joe will engage with him and against someone like that Trinidad will be more into the fight, I don't say he will win because Joe shoots rapid fire shots and thats like ******nite for Tito but it could be a good fight and Joe will rack up legends on his resume, Kessler was a good enough young guy, he should just go for the legacy and the names that will compliment his record.
Edit: I just realized I switched the whole topic to Joe and not Roy, my fault, as for Roy I think he has A LOT to offer still, as I said above he can beat Joe he just needs to decide what he wants to do, moving to 157 is too risky but then again so was going up to Heavyweight, I can't find it in me to doubt him I can just vouch for him and say that whatever he does decide to do he will look good doing so due to his great style.Last edited by crillz; 01-27-2008, 11:30 AM.

^ Thanx man but yea....i was also wondering that Jones might have a problem with a fighter who is also a volume puncher and against lacy calzaghe threw punches in bunches lol but does anybody think Roy can hurt calzaghe at this stage in his career cause i think thats roy only chance

I like Roy and I thought he got in remarkable shape for 39, hell any age, in the Trinidad fight. He still shows damn good hand speed and good to see him keeping his hands up since his reflexes are nothing like they used to be. But I don't think he's active enough to win a decision from Calzaghe and he doesn't seem to have the finishing fire that he used to if he did happen to hurt Joe. A Hopkins fight would be ugly, Roy looked like he was having fun with Tito, I'm not sure how he'd react to one of Bernard's headbutts or elbows.

I doubt Jones could beat Calzaghe or Hopkins at this point in his career. I really don't put much weight in a win over Trinidad, especially an old, inactive Trinidad at 170lbs.
