Yeah and? So antonion praised Roy....big deal. Obviously he respects him like that or he wouldn't have tried so hard to get a crack at him.

And obviously praising Roy wasn't gonna get him a fight with Roy which is why he stepped up his verbal game up blasting Roy every chance he had.

And it worked. Not only did he get Roy to come down in weight to fight him BUT he also got him to sign on to a rematch even though ROY was talking like he was gonna fight Mike Tyson and retire.

I think you kind of missed the point, the irony of a specific statement made by an amateur about an at the time lb4lb fighter EIGHT years before they matched up as pros.

i dont get it either, wouldnt any boxer want to follow in the foot steps of Roy if they were in that situation?

Ok pretend that Floyd said this.

In other words, who cares what he said before. We all know what these guys really think, otherwise they (Floyd, Tarver) wouldn't be chasing guys like Delahoya or Jones.

Jones is an all-time great, of course he said this.

Sort of like Marciano idolizing Louis his whole life and then being forced to fight him when Joe was way past it.

Or Holmes fighting Ali........but those are all different situations.

Scully is trying to make it sound like it's the same I think. Jones is not on the same leve of past-his-primed-ness as those two guys were when they fought Holmes and Joe Louis.

Not to forget that Tarver is not as great as Marciano or Holmes. He is just simply a guy who has Roy's number. He showed everything somebody can show against Roy. In the first fight, he went the distance in a close fight busting Roy up but losing. In the rematch, he makes short work of him before the fight even got started and in the third finishes it off with a clear cutt decision.

Roy bounced back with 3 straight victories and even though he is not back to what he used to be, it shows that he isn't as washed up as some like to make it out to be when defending Roy's greatness.
