Why is HBO avoiding welterweight unification?

The timing is perfect to start it. There are four talented diverse and colorful champions.

HBO wanted HWT unification and is doing it. They did Middlweight with Hopkins, Tito, Joppey and Keith Holmes.

Now they control Floy, Cotto, Cintron and Williams, why not start welterweight unification? or at least get the ball rolling and say it will start after the oscar-floy tv show semi reality fight in 09?

could it be that lil floy is unwilling to participate because he knows he will not survive? HBo is willing to protect floy and deny boxing fans of welterweight unification which would be huge.

If HBO calls for unification, whoever hides from it, should be suspended for two years for cowardice.

HBO has **** all the do with a welterweight unification. It has no say in the matter.

I mean... HBO is definately doing their part.

They already have rights to Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

They were going to air Cintron and Williams.

So, how is HBO not doing their part?

Despite what you seem to believe, HBO doesn't call ALL the shots.

hbo has rights to show fights IF they happen. but they don't put fights together. that is up to the managers/promoters and the fighters. hbo just has the right to show the fights if they happen.

HBO is showing one heavyweight unification fight. That doesn't mean that they'll make any effort to pursue it futher. HBO showed the middleweight unification years ago, but it was Don King that made it happen. The welterweights you speak of all have different promoters and various mandatory contenders to deal with. If you allow for Floyd-DLH II to go forward, then you can't even start this for another year. In other words this plan is badly flawed and calling for two year suspensions (by a TV network?) is absurd.
