Your Thoughts on Boxing 2008 So Far?

i understand that we're barely in January, the beginning of the year, but I cant help but think that the sport isnt headed in the best direction. It feels like the old timers are trying at a come back this year. Trinidad/Jones wasnt THAT bad but Tyson/Holyfield? Then De La Hoya who should really just retire is going for a rematch with Mayweather. i cant help but think that promoters/fighters are just gonna try to milk the minimal ressurection that boxing experienced. Greedy hands are going to be too busy this year.

Hopefully, the fights that do count will create enough noise to bring some shine some positive light on the sport.

Those certain matchups we hear so far are not that intriguing and there seems to be some fights that are just about the money, but it's still early and I hold out hope that better more relvant fights are made later in this year.

guys, we only have fights scheduled until April, and one in May (DLH-Forbes) and some potential matches like Cotto-Margarito for the summer.

Other then that, this year hasnt even begun yet. And its a hell of a first half guys, idk what 2501 is talkin about.

March is one of the better months of this decade. Pacquiao-Marquez 2, Vazquez-Marquez 3, Katsidis-Casamayor, and thats not even the whole month

Im talking bout the over scope of things. Not just what the hardcore audience is expecting.

Just look at the schedule on ESPN.com. There's going to be good fights on every week for months.

The 4 biggest/best fights so far this year were made almost entirely for the fans.

For MARQUEZ-VAZQUEZ 3, Showtime is making a 24/7 type series to promote the show. Do you honestly think they will be taking in that much more profit??? No, Media members begged for the fighters and fans to be treated better and thats whats happening here.

MARQUEZ-PACQUIAO 2 was made because fans have been begging for the fight for 4 years.

HOPKINS-CALZAGHE was made in the states and on Free TV.

And DLH-Forbes will be held on free TV in front of many thousands of people at the Azteca Stadium, with cheap tickets

I mean, if you guys are seriously gonna critisize this then u are dilousional. Almost everything being done right now is great for boxing. And the bad things lead to much better things. Like Gomez-Cotto leads to Cotto-Margarito. And DLH-Forbes leads to Mayweather-DLH 2, which is big event whether u like the fight or not

What fans? the people who tuned into Mayweather/De La hoya 1? They hardly know of these fighters. The causal fans will only know of Tyson/Holyfield, Mayweather/DLH 2, and Trinidad/Jones which already passed. Thats what I'm talking about. I know there are great fights this year but will they make the headlines? Unfortunately, these BS fights are what will represent Boxing in 2008.
