whats disturbing to me is him saying povetkin would have exposed him. please,,,povetkin is a damn good fighter but he has no defense and vitali would have had no problems landing on him whereas povetkin doesnt appear to have the power to bother vitali. vitali was difficult to hit with comobs with his height and upper body movement. I cant see how anyone with half a descent boxing iq would state such a ridiculous thing

There are a lot of hardcore fans of Vitali on this site, myself included, but I don't remember reading anything about him being an ATG.

Nobody ever said he was an ATG you douchebag....Vitali Klitschko was a dominant force when he was fighting and he registered the highest heavyweight champion KO% of all time (35 wins,34 KO's), he also has an iron chin and he has never been down. It's too bad about Vitali's injuries, he had potential to be an ATG, but he never got a chance to prove it because of his injury troubles. It would be great if Vitali can make a comeback and dominate the HW division again with his brother, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Vitali is a veteran of alot of combat sports bouts. Years as a kickboxer, then years as a boxer haven't been kind. Being very tall and lean, he probably wasn't blessed the best joints either. He wasn't easy on the eye but he did alot of things in the ring that are easy to miss, eg his reflexes were pretty sharp even if his speed wasn't and he moved like a much smaller man if he had to. He tended to move straight back bending his head and upper body away when under a heavy attack, which is normally a no no because the other guy can predict where your head will be if you have been doing this all fight and fill that space with a bomb, yet Vitali's head probably ended up being too far away for most fighters to crack without the assistance of a trampoline. Mentally though, I don't think he was confident of his ability. His putting off a bout with Rahman was really bad as he would have whipped Rahamn, but I dont think he believed it himself.

Vitali was ahead on the scorecards in both those fight, so in a sense he never really "lost". Lewis was far from shot, and Byrd was certainly far from being a "bum".

The way Vitali destroyed strong opponents like Donald, Hide, Williams, Johnson and Sanders was impressive and that's why I'm his fan.

Someone sould have checked to see if there was something wrong with Lewis gloves in that fight, normally gloves don't cause a cut like that. Vitali would have defeated Lewis and really established himself as an elite heavyweight if not for the cut.

Good fighter, no doubt. Shame he had all those injuries though, I really thought he would take over the HW Division and be the ruler there for a long time.
