Is Roy now a better defensive fighter with the new Winky Wright style

Do you think this makes him a better defensive fighter using this new Winky Wright style of keeping both hands up and punching with straight punches down the pipe. Sraight left jab and straight hand right hands. Followed by the left hook to the body. Just keeping it simple

    He seems harder to hit

He was able to block solid shots, but a precision puncher could expose that easily. He also gave up alot of shots to the body and a BIG puncher could make him drop his hands.

Absoluetly better.Floyd better watch what Roy did because once he gets Roys age he won't be able to move the way he does now.Winky style is made for the long haul......Floyd and Roys style is for the prime and not built to last a whole career.Great adjustment by Roy....Now just if he could get his offense back.He should have stopped Tito period.I wasn't impressed.

i give him absolute credit for fighting one way for 15+years and then changing his style to make up for the mobility in his legs... you have to give him credit for chaning his style... to keep fighting... and if he fights at smw, im not seeing anyone hurting him or busting through that shell... hes gonna be naturally bigger.. his fast counterpunching makes his oponents less eager to start throwing punches at him

He is a better defensive fighter now than the last few years. But in his prime his defense was much better, he used sick head/body movement and footwork to avoid punches.

Keeping hands up to block Tito's punches = changing style?

I don't think so... I think he just followed Wrights blueprint to beat Trinidad.

But good to see he can keep his guard up and not try to look good avoiding all those punches having the other fighter miss. And I think it's mainly due to a fear of getting cought.

              Could be good...could be bad.

I hate defensive fighters who just rely on defense and don't try to finish fights.

Look at the hassle Winky Wright is going through to get a fight. Nobody wants to fight him. There's no excitement.

Yes keeping his hands up is changing his defensive style, which was to use his foot speed to move away from punches, typically back rather than away from power punches, that works well when you're quick but when you get old you have to either change your style or get hit, he changed his style.

He started this with Hanshaw so it wasn't something he did just once to beat a specific fighter based on another fighters success.

i dont know if you pay much attention to floyds style, but by your logic, james toney well past his prime should have been knocked out about 20 times by now. Your right, roys style isnt anywhere near effective past his prime because he breaks every rule in the book, but floyd is the picture perfect role model for what a fighter should be in ring, well into his 30's floyd will still be able to compete at a high level because his defense first approach combined with his quickness makes him what he is, even when his quickness fades, his intelligence and ring generalship will carry him through fights as it always has.

floyd and roy couldnt be any further apart.

I see your point but Toney would have been KOed 20 times already if he didn't have that brick for a head and no neck to speak of......he's a freak.I just don't think in 5 years Floyds gonna roll like he once did.
