Boxers in the right place at the right time

which boxers do you think were in the right place at the right time? Personally I'd plump for steve collins - nice guy but at best he was only a decent domestic fighter yet managed to fight and beat eubank and benn in their autumn years. In their prime they would have both beaten him convicingly.

Collins was a former US champion who looked to have beaten Reggie Johnson in a world title fight in the US. And I actually think he'd have always beaten Eubank and also Nigel. He'd have always out-worked Eubank, and proved he could take Nigel's best punch.

Eubank I think in a way was in the right place at the right time. Him nearly killing Watson and literally killing that roadworker were bigger news around Britain than Tyson losing to Douglas and raping that ho. The attention Eubank got before either of those was absolutely insane, that's what I'm saying. He had everything in place - terrestrial TV when there were only four channels (two, really), and perfect rivals in each of Benn, Stretch and Watson.

When Collins beat Eubank on SKY, it was the main news that night on both the BBC News and ITN News. I think it was a Friday. And it wasn't Steve Collins beating Eubank, it was just Eubank losing. The general public didn't really take notice of Collins anyway.

Convincingly I dont think so! Eubank was 28/29 when fought Collins, that should have been his prime, if your saying his prime was 1990-1993 then again I think you may not have seen some of the drab performances he put in between the two Benn fights. If anything I'd say Eubank was in the right place at the right time. Benn was a ****er not a technically good fighter, Collins was and a warrior to boot, I'd have him over either of them.

I still think Collins was a twat though for saying he couldn't get up for the Calz fight and retiring, excuses, excuses, he'd seen Calz on the way up and wanted none of it.

well said that man ,people look at Collins & think he was a bum he was'nt he was good fighter he pushed Mike McCallum all the way & had McCallum running away from him towards the end of the fight ,Collins actually was counter punching effectively in his 1st fight with Eubank ,in the 2nd fight he obviously brawled his way to a decision

Collins was a good fighter IMO ,and he does'nt get the credit he deserves

I don’t think collins was as good as watson eubank or benn but he was not that far behind them and would have given them trouble at any point in there career's.
