I think bias is saying Roy Jones can beat Kessler you came up with that conclusion by watching him beat an inactive welter to middle weight fighter? Tito looked good just not at that weight, I liked the way he was going to the body but you cannot really judge Jone's recent performance by beating a career 147-160 pound fighter with that long of a layoff!!!!

Roy doesn't want it with any of the young Middleweights / Super Middleweights.
Edison Miranda & Kelly Pavlik pose a problem to Roy if he even ventured to fight them.
Miranda, though not a great "boxer", unquestionably has a hard ****in punch that can lay Roy out (though the chances are sorta unlikely). Roy knew exactly how Tito was coming to fight so his performance didn't surprise me.
Though Pavlik has to get passed Jermain again (which he will), he'd also be a huge problem for Roy as Pavlik just jabs and jabs and lets that right hand come exploding through the guard and to the body nonstop. Roy would get KO'd in the late rounds.
His best bet is a fight with Glen Johnson or the winner of Calzaghe vs Hopkins (though I don't think he'll fight BHop if he wins).Comment

I think the weight thing is too big of an issue especially with ppl who dislike jones. Its harder to lose weight than to gain it. both fighters are 5'11 and trinidad has the longer reach. and trinidad is known to be a power puncher which would only be magnified fighting at 170. Trinidad fought like himself its just that he never fought against a Jones type and looked a little different. but he still tried his ultimate best to ko jones with his power combinations, its just jones blocked them. don't under estimate jones' performance cuz he did well.
oh and I didn't come up with that conclusion that he could beat kessler from the trini fight, I always thought he could beat kessler. Its just that now he would do it with ease cuz of his new fighting style.Last edited by -Swizzy-; 01-22-2008, 04:04 PM.Comment

Can he see punches coming?: Yes
Can he Block decently fast powerful punches?: Yes
When he sees openings can he pull the trigger?: Yes
Is his hand speed stil intact?: Yes
Is his stamina still good?: Yes
Can he throw combinations?: Yes
Can he still beat top fighters to the punch?: Yes
Does he still have power?: Yes
First of all, tito was a naturally smaller fighter... but he definitely was power punching... you could be 250, and you would still feel those punches... if you think it would feel like cottonballs... your delusional... second, i wasnt looking at who roy was facing as much as i was looking at the tools roy was able to bring to the table... fast accurate punches... double and triple left hooks, a good fast jab, solid fast right hand, 5, 6, 7 punch combinations... new effective way of blocking, good stamina... seeing the opening, and pulling the trigger... which is the biggest thing for an aging fighter... and he pulled the trigger no problem at all... in his last two fights hes knocked down his opponent 3 times... yes they were smaller fighters.. but roys also 39... and hasnt been 169 pounds in over 10 years... everyone seems to forget THAT part of the equation...
all i hear is tito was a smaller fighter... what about a 39 year old former heavyweight, who just made 169 1/2 pounds.. and PERFORMED... what about that partComment

you said it yourself you were just looking at one man, now take a second and measure the opponent, and then think to yourself what RJJ looked like going down against Tarver or Johnson!!!! You looked at what one man was doing but didn't take time to think Trinidads never fought above 160, Trinidad only fought like once since 05 and twice since 04, people talk about ring rust from taking a year off, what about pretty much taking since 2001 off!!!! Roy looked alright but you have to take a look at who (no disrespect to Tito but he ain't the same fighter or anywhere near that weight class) he fought, thats like me saying if Cotto dominates Gomez that Floyd better watch out b/c Cotto looked good against Gomez?Comment

Alright, but when looking at his tools you have to decide if his tools simply looked good b/c it was a ring rusted underweight Trinidad or if Roy Jones has changed that much since getting KO'd by Tarver and Johnson? His tools looked good but I have a feeling if he fought a prime fighter like Kessler he would look even worse than that Roy that got KO'd!!!!Comment

that of course, is all opinion and speculation... the only point i was making, is the tools he still has left... and tito wasnt as bad as everyone says.. i thought, as well as emanuel steward, max kellerman, and jim lampley all thought tito looked VERY good,.... all things considering

I think Trinidad looked better than Jones, which is rare considering he lost (in convincing fashion at that) but I think Trinidad could make noise in the WW division if he continues training instead of taking long layoffs. I don't think Jones could ever beat Calzaghe or Kessler or any SMW that matter. All my opinions but Trinidad has a better chance at doing anything especially if he could line up a rematch with DLH!!!!Comment

or what you mean to say is: trinidad looked MORE like his formerself than ROY looking like his formerself...
which may be true... but when they said back in his prime... roy could lose half his ability and still compete at top level.. i dont think they were lying... he cant dominate like he used to... but he can definitely compete...
your opinions on roy vs kessler or calzaghe.. are just that... and of course you, like the rest of us... are all entitled to our own.
