    Jones-Trinidad: The Post-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - When it was first announced, I penned a column for Boxing Scene asking whether a 2008 Roy Jones Jr.-Felix Trinidad bout would be a punch line, a bad joke if you would, or a prize fight. Saturday night, at Madison Square Garden, the boxing world was treated to a best case scenario. For twelve highly professional rounds between future Hall if Famers, Jones-Trinidad was a prize fight.

Based on the Trinidad fight, I beleive that Rjj has a very good shot at still beating B-hop and a decent chance of a Calzaghe upset. We have to remember: Roy is still bigger than Calzaghe and is faster, hands down. Calzaghe is not slow by any stretch, but nowhere near Jones' league. Jones and Calzaghe are (2) of my favorite fighters, and as much as I hate to see them fight........I would love to see them fight! I honestly dont believe there is another fighter out there in SMW or LHW that can beat Calzaghe , aside from Jones. He has the style and speed to negate the Dragon's ability. If you looked closely, Kessler gave him fits when throwing fast combinations and Calzaghe's combinations didnt land in those exchanges. The only problem is that Jones doesnt throw enough punches, BUT I dont think it will make a difference here in this fight. Jones will counter calzaghe all night and deter him, and if he doesnt get deterred, he may go to sleep. To be honest, I dont think Joe can hurt Jones. Not that he doesnt have power, its just that he doesnt hit nearly as hard as Tarver or Glen Johnson when they are motivated. Roy will have a hard time getting either fight to happen, but if it does come off..............I for one will be salivating!

Roy looked pretty good. Trinidad looked good as well and I believe if he could get down to 154 he could probably win another belt down there. As for Roy again, I liked the Winky style defense he employed to beat up on Trinidad and I think he should stick with it against future opponents as well and mix it up with some of his former reflex defense to boggle them. His hand speed is pretty much all there and he'd give problems to anyone 168 up north even at 39 years old.

Jones also taunted the **** out of Trinidad, I particularly loved the Rick Flair style 'Wooooooo' he did to Trinidad before knocking him down in the 7th lol.

      Roy 4 life.

I was happy with the fight. Trinidad looked sharper than I thought he would be. I thought Roy did very good also. The under card was decent as well.

8400: Jones is not bigger than Calzaghe; I've stood next to both and Calzaghe is taller with a bigger frame.

How you rate Jones win over Trinidad? Post Tarver and Johnson. He beat Lacy, Trinidad and that European guy.
