    Oscar De La Hoya's May 3, 2008 Tune-Up Opponent

Who do you think should be ODLH's opponent for his 05-03-08 tune-up bout?
I've heard that Steve Forbes, Paulie Malignaggi, and Dmitri Salita are all potential options for the fight.
Malignaggi and Forbes are most likely being considered due to their speed, so that they can provide De La Hoya with the chance to warm up for Floyd Mayweather's elusive style in September, but they are both Junior Welterweights and considerably smaller than Oscar, who will be fighting Mayweather at the 154 Ibs. Junior Middleweight limit. I believe that the perfect option for ODLH would be to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who is a Junior Middleweight, or Cory Spinks, who is also a Junior Middleweight with a style similar to Floyd Mayweather's.

I've read Paulie Malinaggi is desperate for a big payday. He said he don't care about nothing else at this point but getting his bank account filled up.

I say Delahoya should give him a title shot. There is some intrigue behind that fight.

Not gonna happen and he is careful. Why do you think there are 3 candidates that happened to be jr.welterweights. Not even welterweights.........that's called playing it safe.

Chavez Jr. is undefeated and has already expressed a desire to someday avenge his father's two losses to De La Hoya. The revenge dynamic would add drama and hype to the build-up and overall provide Oscar with a competitive, but certain victory.
and how would Chavez prepare Oscar for Mayweather? they are probably about as different as fighters can get, you do know what tune-up fights are for right?

He is going after JW's and these aren't exactly the best in the business but at least the fight is not on PPV.

or Paulie and Steve who are both small guys, with good defense, and quick, they also dont pose much of a problem which is what is wanted in a tune up fight. Hes not saying its going to be a good fight or even competitive, so i dont get why people are complaining.

I'm going to say Paulie Malignaggi.

He may be much smaller BUT i think paulie malignaggi is one of the best fights oscar can make in preparation for floyd mayweather.

infact it wouldnt hurt (after their fight) if malignaggi would be (if you could call him one) a sparring partner for oscar de la hoya.

i say this because (despite the size difference) i believe paulie malignaggi fights very similar to mayweather (with the exception of the lack of power and the fact paulie is usually willing to trade a tad more than mayweather)

                his defense is good aswell.

he has speed VERY comparable to mayweather and his fighting style seems to be within the same tree branches as mayweather.

i've always said malignaggi is the B class fighter version of the elite class fighter floyd mayweather.

he's a less talented version of mayweather overall.

i think it would help oscar de la hoya the most.

and if this fight ends up on free tv (like oscar talked about) it would be huge!

the arena would sell out easily and the rating would be through the roof.

imagine if it aired for free on FOX or CBS?

                record breaking.

plus i like oscar and paulie both and think even though its considered a "tune-up" it would still be a great fight to see...it could be possibly one of the best "tune-up" fights on in a long long long time.
