Could Roy beat Calzaghe using the (Winky Wright) style

Roy's last 2 fights against Handshaw for a short period and against Tito for a lot of there fight, he went to the Winky Wright style of walking his opponent down and blocking punches and countering with straight right hands and eventually combinations. Do you think that would work against Calzaghe?

Jeff Lacy came forward, but he doesnt block punches as well as Roy or has close to the same speed or counterpunching ability as Roy.

Roy to me is strong at this weight and would probably be stronger then Calzaghe. Allow Calzaghe to throw punches in volume while Roy keeps his hands up coming forward and blocking and countering Calzaghe with straight right hands and eventually quick body shots and combinations.

If he couldn't finish off a welterweight who wasn't boxed in years,I don't really see how he's going to KO calz cause he can't outwork him.

He doesnt have to KO Calzaghe. I thought Roy had a lot of respect for Tito's power and let him off the hook. He easily could have finished Tito in that 7th round.

Tito had a lot of snap in that left hook. You can't get careless with him.

He might not outwork Calzaghe, but he could be the one landing the meaningful and harder shots. Block and counter with body shots and straight right hands.

Joe is an accurate volume puncher. The connect rate would be off the charts. Roy would never win this fight. He'll never KO Joe thats for sure and how can you win a decision if you dont throw enough punches. Joe would expose Roy and send him off to retirement with a one sided loss. It's as simple as that.

Calzaghe would outpunch Roy IMO. When Roy puts the guard up.. Calzaghe is gonna tee off!

I could see Calzaghe forcing a stoppage at some point.

Pretty refreshing to see Roy with his hands up so much in a fight. He still has good hand speed and power and looks in great shape. I don't think he wants to stick his chin out against Joe like he did against Tito though. Joe would catch him before he could get his guard up and he can't pull back nearly as fast as he used to.

Exciting fight though, a much better one than the Hopkins' fight. Roy has a chance, but I'll be betting on Joe.

roy is faster than joe and can counter punch joe since he throws alot of sloppy punches. joe style is to overwelme opponents and roy can beat him to the punch since joe is open at times.
