I don't see the need for national anthems before boxing matches. What is the point? Most of them are dreadful and only serve to destroy the building atmosphere.

I don't know. Sometimes, especially when you have fighters from different countries, the sound of well sung national anthem can really get the nationalistic juices flowing. I think they can generate more excitement right before the bout starts.

I actually like hearing foreign anthems. I'm not Mexican, but I used to get pretty stoked when the MX anthem was played before old JCC fights.
