It's possible that Floyd gets done with a fight, & thinks about not wanting to go through the rigors of training, especially with those hands of his. After some time goes by, he rethinks it & decides to fight.....considering the obscene amount of money he stands to make.
I Thought Floyd Was Retiring?

He's Fightin for Money
Floyd is doing what all good fighters do today. He's got a name and can make millions fighting retired fighters like Dela Hoya while real in their prime top ten fighters are side stepped. I don't blame him after all its a business and why fight real Welterweights or Jr Middleweights when big money fights can be made fighting a re-match against another long retired fighter doing the same thing, Dela Hoya. Dela Hoya hasn't fought a real in their prime fighter in years yet is concidered this super fighter. Floyd wants to get on the same band wagon as Roy Jones JR, Trinidad, Dela Hoya and Hopkins have been doing and fans pay to see it. I can't believe this week-end people will lay down their hard earned cash to see two shot fighters pound each other [Jones vs Trinidad]. Sooner or later fans will wise up and stop paying for this nonsense, what's next Tyson vs Holmes IIComment

it's simple, he would "retire" if he had to fight Cotto. retirement/hiatus was his escape hatch from Cotto.
but floy has been able to handpick his next opponent - oscar. look for floy to go on hiatus after oscar, because Cotto will still be undefeated and breathing down his neck.
floy won't ever handpick Cotto or Margarito or Williams he will pray they lose.
actually he will probly handpick judah again if judah were able to beat Margarito.Comment
