    Roy Jones Interview: BRAND NEW

    Jan 15, 2008

I JUST watched a video on btalk.com with roy.. this what was said.. forgive the mispellings I just typed it out from the video for you guys... Roy was dead serious the whole time.. didnt even move.. just had a hoody on, and stared straight ahead...

MEDIA: Do you think this event will generate a lot of money?

Roy: Im not tryin to make a dollar. I dont care. I aint here to make a dollar, Im here to beat Tito. Ya know, if i can make a dollar, I think ive made enough, you know... im cool either way... its my time to shine again.

MEDIA: Can you give us an idea of what the PPV buys have to be for you to start bringing in money.

Roy: I dont really even know, I aint even add it up, I dont really care. That'll let you know I aint interested in the PPV Im interested in Winning.
I came.... to win. I didnt come to count the pay per-view. I came.. to win.

MEDIA: Is that why you have been predicting a 4 round KO?

Roy: Cuz I came.... to win.

Media: Cuz you came to win.... Does that have to do with the 4 Olympians?

Roy: Nope. It aint got nothin to do with that, cuz he said 4 of them got gold medals... but I didnt get a gold medal, I got robbed and got a silver. But im the best out of the 4 Olympians, so he can come on. That Olympic thing, he can hang that up, cuz it wont happen this time...

Media: Roy the front row tickets for this fight are up to 15 grand... Is there any boxer other than yourself that you would pay that much to see.

Roy: Muhammad Ali. You know Why? Cuz I know Id get my money worth. When you sit down in front of Roy when he fightin somebody like Tito, you feelin to get your moneys worth. Rest of em, you might, and you might not. And Ill tell you who else in his prime. Mike Tyson. Cuz he was gonna give me his moneys worth. He aint gonna go out there worryin about how he gonna look, or duck and dodgin, hes gonna go out there and give me my moneys worth.

Media: Is that one of the reasons why you say your gonna allow it to go 4 rounds?

Roy: I aint gonna allow it to go fo, if I get the chance, its gonna be cut shorter than that now.. But.. Im just thinkin he might make it to four cuz hes a decent fighter.. I aint gonna lie im feelin to go for it if I get the opportunity.. If i see a chance, he outta there... Just like when he say, if he see a chance he gonna get me outta there.. I mean hey... thats what it is..

Media: Why do you feel you have a such a clear advantage?

Roy: It aint necessrily that I got a clear advantage. I feel the same way I felt when I fought John Ruiz.. It aint that I got a clear Advantage... thats just me.. when I get ready I feel like cant nobody beat me.. right now I feel like Im ready.. I feel like Im where I wanna be so.... Its gonna be hard for somebody to beat me right now...

Media: Do you think he has trouble with boxers that are slick like you are?

Roy: Yeah, but im not feelin to put that part of the game on him... I dont even think thats worth my time... tryin to outbox him.. for me man, you gata go back and add it up, and look at it.. you fightin a guy that made most of his career at welterweight and jr middleweight, and he comin to fight a guy, that was everywhere. Dont get me wrong, he can punch... he can punch as good as any guy i done fought... but at the same time, he aint used to takin that punch back.. for that many rounds like that.. so i mean i could box.. if i saw i couldnt match him power for power, then yeah i could outbox him... but i gata see that first...

MEDIA: Is there anything beyond his power roy, that concerns you?

ROY: Nah, hes a tenacious fighter... he holds his own.. but once i get goin.. its a wrap...

MEDIA: Hows the style changed, and is Roy Jones a better fighter as a middleweight, than as a Heavyweight.

Roy: Most definitely a better fighter at middleweight. Much busier fighter. I got more game. I got more tricks. I got more moves. At middleweight Im a much better fighter... and Im back to my lower weight dude, thats why I feel so good now... thats why I feel back to my old self... You whip me like this, you whipped a bad dude... (laughs)

MEDIA: You left for camp this time, normally you dont go away for camp, is there any particular reason for that?

Roy: Cuz I had to go back to bein the old roy jones jr, you know? I had to get it right, mentally, and physically... He gonna be right there in your face... what else can he do? thats all hes ever done? even if you killin him he gonn be right there...

Media: Your last two fights, were you know, smaller shows, did that humble you a bit?

Roy: Nah, I was humble already, doesnt take nothing to humble me. People say you went behind the scene... You gata think about it, ive fought in Portland Oregon.

Media: Is this fight in anyway different cuz of the size of the fight?

Roy: Not at all Its still a fight. the guy still wanna beat ya... its the same thing.. It might seem different to yall cuz of where we are and all, and all the media... but the last guy was an undefeated guy, I mean people called me and told me not to fight em... I fight for a living... I dont want no gimmicks, i want someone else that feel like they can win.

Media: At this point in time, does a victory over Tito add to your legacy?

Roy: Nahhhhhh, not at this point in time... you gata think 106 years, not only went from to middleweight to heavyweight.. but came back to light heavy and regained the title... But he didnt go down and regain middleweight and the supermiddleweight title... what if i go down and regain the supermiddleweight title?!?! Somebody didnt do that did they? ahhh

Media: You think the Hopkins Calzaghe fight not getting solitified has anything to do with either guy waiting for the winner of this fight?

Roy: No, But I tell you what... one guy aint gonna have to wait long... Cuz come Sunday if that fight aint done, Im gone... If everythings good and I feel like im gonna feel like in this fight... Im not even goin back to Pensacola.. Sunday Mornin, Im goin straight to Wales...

Media: Do you care Trinidads name was first on the banner?

Roy: Nooooo... He can be first on the banner, he can be called first, he can come to the ring lassst... when the bell ring.. all that is out the window...

Media: You told me if you dont stop Trinidad in 6 or less, somethings wrong.

Roy: Yeah somethin got to be wrong.. it might be time for me to stop then... unless he can take a whole lote more than I think he can take.. and he a good dude, and I got nothin against him... hes a warrioir.. but its that warrior mentality thats gonna bring him to me..

I really do feel sorry for tito. I felt sorry for him after the hopkins and wright fights. THey're just sending him into the slaughterhouse now. I think Roy's chin may be ok now. THe weight drain really killed it. I mean look at Tarver, he hasn't been the same since the Rocky movie/Hopkins fight.

Without doubt the worst robbery I've personally seen was Roy 'loosing' to that Korean, I would have been too ashamed to wake up if I was the other boxer. Apparently Roy met the guy at a later date and asked 'did you beat me?' the guy just shook his head.

I actually think it's a strong possibility if Jones gives a good performance against Tito.

                    Nice interview.
