An Extra 200K if Gomez Beats Virchis

ARENA-DEO Ahmet Öner may have lost the purse bid for the WBC elimination bout between Juan Carlos Gomez and Vladimir Virchis but he still believes in his man. As extra-motivation the promoter promised his fighter a win bonus. [details]

JC Gomez has always had a lot of talent - this huge bonus will keep him focused. Gomez should defeat Virchis. If he does, he'll have less problem against the winner of the overrated Sam Peter vs. the 39 year old Oleg Maskaev.

JC Gomez will be WBC champion by the end of 2008 - wait and see!

It's too bad that Gomez didn't bother to train for that fight he lost to Diaz and got caught cold in the first round. He looked in pitiful condition that night. He'd have a lot more profile and leverage if he was still unbeaten.

Virchis, by account of many, won over Chagaev when they met, I don't think it's a walk in the park for Gomez, bonus or no bonus. In fact, I think Virchis is pretty underrated due to the fact that nobody knows about him. If he wins this, he'll have a belt within a year.

I agree, Virchis is underrated as well. If he connects, then Gomez will go down. And if Vlad wins this fight, he'll defeat the winner of Maskaev vs. Peter.

But Gomez showed some fine boxing skills in his last two fights - McCall looked bewildered by the slick southpaw style. JC is fast enough to avoid Virchis, and should land enough counterpunches to win a clear decision. However, he needs to be 100% focused (one mistake and he'll be KOed), and that's why he's been offered the bonus.

I wonder if this fight will be on the same Universum card as Dimitrenko vs. Krasniqi.

Here is one of the older fights of Virchis. Since then, he went on to defeat Vidoz and KO Hawkins, the same guy who went 10 rounds with Peter. Virchis reminds me of Vitali a little bit, although his arsenal is a lot richer, he's got an inside game and he definitely packs one-punch KO power.
