Williams says he's most avoided!
January 15, 2008

For a time, former WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito was billed by his promoter as boxing's 'most avoided' fighter. After dethroning Margarito last July, current WBO welterweight champ Paul "The Punisher" Williams (33-0, 24 KOs) has now adopted the 'most avoided' moniker for himself. "When I hear guys don't want to fight me I feel bad," says Williams. "How can they call themselves world champions or top contenders and be afraid to fight me? I will just have to do what we did with Margarito, and not allow the other champions the ability to run from me....it can get frustrating though. Guys don't want to get in the ring with me because they know they are going to have to fight. They know that I'm not going to be showboating for the camera. I am going to fight and fight for the whole three minutes of every round. They don't want to fight someone like that."
Plans for Williams to fight IBF champion Kermit Cintron in a unificaton clash were scrapped due to a hand injury suffered by Cintron, so Williams is now set to face Carlos Quintana (24-1, 19 KOs) on February 9th at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.
"Cintron agreed to fight Paul, but citing an injury, the fight was postponed in what most thought was just to be a healing period," said Williams' promoter Dan Goossen. "Now healthy, he completely ignored the agreement to fight Paul and instead announced he was looking to fight the man that Paul beat (Margarito), and for a lot less money, without as much as referencing Paul Williams. To make matters more embarrassing for Cintron, now he has called out Cotto, completely ducking Williams once again. Some things just make Paul bigger and scarier to face without having to say anything, and this is a prime example of the impact he has on other fighters.....certain fighters don't care how bad they look ducking Williams as long as they can avoid him."
Goossen named all the other welterweight champions, especially Miguel Cotto, as possible future opponents, with Shane Mosley as an interesting alternative if a bout can't be made with the other beltholders.

You got to love a young, hungry fighter trying to make a name for himself. I love to see that in a fighter. Hopefully in 08 P.W. will have a break out year and establish himself as the top WW. I honestly see him giving any welterweight problems. He just needs to keep destroying the person thats in front of him and he will become a star. I wonder whats next for PW after he fights Quintana( I see him beating Quintana)

and this is coming from a bias Margorito fan. If Margorito was the most feared man in boxing why did he lose to a untested Williams? You've got to be ****ing kidding me if you think he was robbed.
