I like UFC as well but I don't think you are guaranteed good fights on every card and boxing is still streets ahead. There are boxing events on TV every week of the year which can not be said of UFC or even MMA in general.UFC - 17.68 mill per ppv
HBO - 29.97 mill per ppv
boxing is still beating UFC but UFC is fast approaching boxing. I love both sports alot and think UFC will one day overtake boxing not cuz its the better sport but cuz it is better managed. Boxing is way too divided and there are way too many managers and promoters controlling the business which is destroying boxing. The one thing you can count on in UFC is atleast 2-3 great matches in every ppv cuz UFC controls every fighter-not the managers of each fighter. In boxing, fighters are kept away from great fighters for most of their careers to build up a record that looks better than it really is. Boxing needs to scrap all the major organizations(wbo, wba, ibf, wbc....) and just have one ruling body for all of boxing in all the world. Than ufc wouldn't stand a chance and boxing would dominate without a doubt. but as it stand right now, looks like ufc will be making more money than boxing sooner rather than later.Comment

Yeah it's five minute rounds for 3 rounds. Last time I checked 5 x 3 was 15! 15 minutes are you kidding me! And 10 of them are spent laying down humping each other. Boxers fight more than double that and still look ready to go. Where as MMA fighters fight 5 min and their ready to throw in the towel. Get real and get out of here. Boxing is the best.Comment

UFC outdid HBO but not boxing in general, if you add mayorga-vargas for example
I thought hbo did more ppvs than ufc, i was wrong. And HBO made a ton more money with 3 less ppvsComment

that too but it didn't do all that great here in the states.. DLH v Mayorga did better. It only outsold if you count overseas.
name any other ones that sold more then UFC.. you can't.
I hate UFC but fact is they are beating us out right now because Boxing doesn't want to invest any money on itself to expand.Comment

I'm a boxing fan and i totally disagree with you.ufc sucks they are not in shape because by the end of the 1st they are tired. boxers have way better stamina. i can stand to watch bums throwing wide looping punches tired and holding on the ground. to me it sucks. there is NO ART in STREET FIGHTING. Thats what it all boils down to, you can do judo karate muay thai but it is just a glorified street fight by the end with the elbows and knees. I did that **** in middle and high school years ago.
Most of the guys who fight in UFC, Pride, WEC, etc are trained Mixed Martial Artists whether its Ju Jitsu, Kung Fu, Wrestling, Jeet Kune Do, etc.
Boxing & MMA are two totally different sports. Those guys train just as hard as any boxer fighting today. Look up Rich Franklin & Randy Couture's training regiments...****in ridiculous.
I just think it's kinda dumb to throw down MMA calling it glorified street fighting. That's basically saying Bruce Lee was a joke because MMA wouldn't exist without him...and I doubt anyone here is gonna argue Bruce Lee's achievements lolComment

Mayweather and ODH are big names. So what? take away Silva/Jackson/Liddell and their numbers are lower too.that too but it didn't do all that great here in the states.. DLH v Mayorga did better. It only outsold if you count overseas.

I hear what you're saying, but I don't think it's fair to say boxing is only selling this much because of these certain people, when in fact UFC has their own big named stars too.
Once MMA has a single PPV that sells 2 million, has huge box office hit movies glorifying their sport, and has a mega star that is a household name, then I will say MMA has passed boxing.Comment

850,000 People isn't good for Mayweather vs Hatton?
You know how many UFC ppv's have sold more then that?
One
and that was in December of 2006.
UFC does a great job at marketing, but PPV numbers aint the be all and end all.
MMA's biggest gate alltime is 5 Million that dosen't even crack the top 33 Alltime boxing gates in Nevada.
Every MMA company is losing money besides the UFC, and the UFC is in debt for 300 million dollars, people are saying they might be getting sold real soon.
Lets not get carried away, Boxing is in much better shape then MMA.Comment

I think that this sport will eventually burn out because of the way they are marketing it... they're building "UFC" instead of the fighters and the sport itself. I believe that If they continue on the same path the fighters will never grow beyond the table scraps that "their" parent organization hands them.
They're at the mercy of the UFC... boxing is not like that in that Mayweather, De La Hoya, Chavez, Tyson and Ali are all independent brands. They dont directly rely on the WBC, WBO etc. The only MMA name I see as even being remotely close is "Gracie" and it's because of what they did before the UFC.
The fighters in the UFC dont own their own brand and essentially have to beg the UFC... even the ones that were once the best, like couture & ortiz.
I personally think it's a ****** way to market the sport and dont believe it will ever be a long-term threat to boxing because of that...Last edited by mexpwr915; 02-20-2008, 09:56 PM.Comment
