Mayweather was already a name. Pavlik came out of nowhere and knocked out a so called unbeatable champion.
I agree that's why I thought Kelly was the fighter of the year, but I guess when you beat two big names in Hatton and DLH and produce the biggest PPV sales ever in one fight and do really well as well in the other than I guess that's why Money got it.

Woah, woah, woah. Unbeatable?! Who the hell was saying that? This is a guy that struggled in both fights against Hopkins, lost the first and probably sc****d the second in reality, struggled against Kasim Ouma, struggled against Cory Spinks - in fact he probably lost that one - in fact he struggled in all his fights since the first Hopkins one. He was a decent champion but I would completely disagree with that statement, in fact I would say people were just waiting for him to get beat. I had no doubt that Pavlik would win.
Does he deserve fighter of the year? Yeah probably, just. But more for his win over Edison Miranda than over Jermain Taylor. I think Miranda would also murder Jermain.
