Overhyped American Fighters and Under rated International Fighters

Im not taking a pot shot against all Yanks here. What im saying is its natural to let nationality lead you to a state of bias. Heres my list.

    Most Over rated:
    1. Tarver. Lately he has shown me nothing. I can't see him winning another title. And if he fights badly and Lacy corrects his muscle mass problem he could have a shock loss.
    2. Lacy. Has a muscle mass problem. Affecting his stamina and general flexibility, thats why his punches are so predicatable, and he doesn't have muc variety.

    Most Under Rated:
    1. Jermain Taylor. He lost to Kelly Pavlik. He had him knocked down in the second and was one punch away from winning. He beat Hopkins twice. And people are turning on him. He is really talented. And my choice to beat Pavlik in the rematch.
    2. Vernon Forrest. The guys destructive and back to his best. Would like to see Mayorga 3.

    Slight Over Rated:
    1. Pavlik. Sure hes a great fighter and powerful. But Taylor had him hurt in there fight. i give him credit for showing courage and everything, hes very entertaining one of my favourite to watch. But i can see him getting beaten in the future, unlike what a lot of Americans are claiming.

    Honourable mentions:
    - Zab Judah
    - James Toney
    - Allan Green

    Consistently Under rated international fighters:

    1. Joe Calzaghe. This man is simply, pure class. I can't see him loosing to Hopkins, i think he takes a comftorable decision.
    2. Mikkel Kessler. The second best fighter across the MW, SMW and LHW divisions. Only Calzaghe would have beaten him in his last fight. Quick and strong. Very strong.
    3. Amir Khan. Rising talent. Very fast. But could be over rated as well. My jury is still out on him, will make up mind soon.
    4. Mundine. I must admit im influenced by my aussie bias. But this guy has developed late in his career, rapidly. Tipping him for top 10 pound for pound by the end of 2008. Not high rankings but like 10th lol.

    Shockingly still under rated:
Floyd Mayweather. A travesty like i have never seen before. The P4P number 1 fighter. Who has beaten the best that have gone in front of him. Yet Cotto and Margarito fans still think there boys can beat him, when Cotto has beaten an Old Judah and past it Mosley. Margarito does possess power but he lost to Williams.

Conclusion: If Australia or any other country was the biggest boxing market. A Majority of aussie fighters would be over rated to. Im not talking smack or trying to start arguments, just puttting across my beliefs.

Also the fighters in the over rated columns, well most of them, could prove to be under rated and have massive wins because they are all class. Just measuring to the degree of there reputations.

    P.S My Strongest Divisions
    - Welterweight
    - Super Middleweight

    My Weakest Divison:
Light Heavyweight. With Champions like Danny Green, Erdei and Woods. I don't feel its that strong. Especially when Hopkins retires.

My jury is still out on Dawson:

    - Hes a good fighter. Could turn out to be great. Or could be over hyped. Im not judging him just yet.

Nice post...and I agree with just about all of your assessments.

As for Floyd,he could knockout Cotto and Margarito and there would still be some who would not give him credit.

Good post, I agree with everything you just said

and yeah, I think Mayweather is grossley underrated even though he is P4P #1. I don't think we will see another guy as good as him maybe ever. He is a hell of a lot better than Jones was imo yet some people pick Pacquiao over him P4P...

Good topic but I can't agree that Mayweather is underrated. He isn't underrated at all. He's the concensus pound for pound number one in the world, you can't get more highly rated than that.

When Cotto fans are saying your dodging him after beating an old Judah and Mosley. When Margarito fans are saying your dodging him for beating Cintron and then loosing to Williams. He is still being under rated.

I disagree about Calzaghe being Underrated. I feel he gets his just dues for it now.

I think Kessler might not be that underrated too since he was supposed to give Calzaghe a lot of problems. Other then that, I agree.

Kessler is the second best fighter in the MW, SMW and LHW divisions behind Joe. Such is the strength of SMW, and the class of Joe. I support all three divisions but this is quite obvious to me.

I wouldn't say Kessler would beat Bhop. Or maybe even Pavlik.

I'd have at 3 or 4. Not sure on Pavlik vs Kessler which would be for 3-4 spot.

I think Kessler can stop Pavlik. Pavlik is powerful, but Kessler is on another powerful level. He is to strong on the inside against Pavlik.

B-Hop? I dunno. It could be interesting. but this fight will likely be his last against Joe C, so may aswell put him at 2 now.
