You guys need to CALM THE **** DOWN about COTTO-GOMEZ

This is Nothing even remotely CLOSE to disgraceful or pathetic.

    This all makes complete sense.

First of all, IT IS A TUNEUP FIGHT. They arent promoting COTTO-GOMEZ like did for COTTO-JUDAH or COTTO-MOSLEY. Instead this is going to be promoted as a MARGARITO-COTTO double header. Its highly likely that Gomez's face does not even appear on the poster.

The only reason this fight is being made, is to promote the COTTO-MARGARITO superfight (sorta) while making money and pleasing the fans in the process.

Would you rather sit and wait until june to see Cotto and Margarito fight again, or would u rather see them both in tune up fights on the same night, against very good competition???

Gomez and Judah are top 10 worthy Welterweights in terms or talent. Cotto and Marg on different levels then their respective opponents, but thats not their faults...

This whole thing has been blown way outta proportion. Guys like C.Y. and Sonofisis really have no idea what they are talking about. This is a process. Its not replacing a DLH or Mayweather fight, the Margarito fight is the one doing that.

PS: Gomez has a fanbase that reaches into the casual fan and mainstream fan, people who watched the contender. Its not a significant amount of people, but its an important group of fans. Cotto beating Gomez makes even more of a star

It will be a good fight. Gomez is tough and comes to fight and he is also ruthless, he showed that against Gatti, gave him no mercy. Cotto is above his class but this will provide entertainment.

People who make Gomez out to be some great challenger who would KO Hatton and Baldomir do annoy me though but I guess some people feel the need to discredit Floyd's achievements at every chance.

          I agree

          Good thread

Beating Gomez in convincing fashion would be good for Cotto, because of all the casual fans Gomez brings, from beating Gatti to the Contender.

Would Cotto give Judah a rematch if Zab were to beat Margarito and ruin the plans? Of course I'm not even sure if these two fights are going to happen yet but if they do.

I agree with everything KBall, except for the wide-reaching fan base.

That didn't work out so well for Joe Calzaghe when he fought Peter Manfredo Jr.

Its a tune-up to promote the fight and stay active at the same time. Not a tune up to come back from defeat.

And Margarito needs a semi-profile win in order to ready himself for Cotto.

AND, that quote by Rizoo in your Sig is right. The guys of the 20's, like the Dempsey era, fought with almost no technique compared to what fighters of today do.

The sport has evolved an unbelievable amount. Guys like Barney Ross and Jack Dempsey would have been on the wrong side of some onesided beatdowns if they were teleported to today. However, if they were born in this era they probably would have learned the technique and maybe have been equally as great, who knows
