    I agree

I agree with you entirely. I wrote two of these threads this morning neither took off. Calzaghe fans aren't real boxing fans. They're terrified that he's going to lose that 0. That's why they love the Hopkins fight and have been talking about an RJJ fight.

Calzaghe should be fighting Pavlik/Taylor/Dawson his next fight.

      Here is one thread

know at this site we're all supposed to be very serious boxing fans, who dismiss anything out of the box... but bear with me...

Boxing was alot of fun last year. That fact was due in large part to the promotional companies giving the fans the fights that they wanted to see. Even matchups that weren't great (see: Mayweather/Hatton), still produced exciting boxing events. We got Kessler/Calzaghe. We got Cotto/Mosley. We got Pavlik/Taylor, and of course, De La Hoya/Mayweather. Now, here comes 2008. I have high hopes. But, first we have one hurdle:

Hopkins/Calzaghe. This is not a good fight. I love Bernard Hopkins. But, he's 43 years old. Calzaghe looked very good against Kessler. Calzaghe will win this fight easily. But what makes me even more hesitant of supporting this fight is the idea that a 43 year old Bernard Hopkins is not going to risk being embarassed. Which means, he will not fight the fight that he needs to to win. The result, a low contact boxing match that allows Hopkins to set up one more payday (Jones Jr.? Is this the Senior Tour?)after he loses.

Calzaghe has to fight someone. True. The benefit of this Hopkins fight is it will give him exposure in the United States. Let's hope he uses that exposure to set up a fight with one of these guys:

Chad Dawson: Coincidentally, Dawson is making a title defense on April 12 against Glen Johnson in Tampa. If he wins, a fight with Calzaghe would make sense. Calzaghe wants to be an inter-division champ. Dawson is a champ. However, this fight would probably have to take place in Europe as Calzaghe would be the bigger name.

Taylor: There are benefits and drawbacks with this possibility. Taylor has already said he is moving up, win or lose. If Taylor beats Pavlik, he would be free for a major summer fight. A fight with Calzaghe could define his career and make Calzaghe a household name in the States. But, there are problems. Taylor has no belt. In order for the fight with Calzaghe to be a title fight it would have to be at 168. Is a fight with Calzaghe at 175 possible? Maybe. But, that fight would seem to offer more risk than reward for both fighters. Still, the money might make it worthwhile.

Pavlik: How ****ing awesome would this be. This would be huge... huge... huge. Seriously. Assuming both win, this fight would be the Mayweather/De La Hoya fight of 2008. Too good not to make. Of course, the weight for the fight would be tough to settle on. 168? 175? I don't think it matters. This fight has to be made. Pavlik fights some soup can in June (Duddy, probably), Calzaghe gets to soak in some American attention after dismantiling Hopkins, and set this mother up for September/October.
Now, a whole bunch of you will hate on this idea. You'll say it makes more sense for Calzaghe to fight Bute of Mundine, or whoever. What- the ****-ever. I'm calling bull****. I know that most of you want to see this fight even if you don't admit it. You have to want to see it. I can't imagine the excitment. And, if you truly don't want to see this fight you should just retire from whatever you're doing and become a crochety old man who keeps frisbees that land in his yard.

He has beaten enough up and coming talent, he needs names now to cement his legacy which is exactly what he is doing now.
