Judah in search of formidable foe
Editor: Hey Zab, how were your Holidays? What's the latest on when we can expect you back in the ring? "The Holidays were beautiful. I spent some time in Los Angeles and now I'm back in Vegas. I've been walking down Las Vegas Boulevard all day. I heard this is the Mecca of boxing and this is where all the big time boxing is at. I've been walking up and down the strip looking for fighters and I can't find nobody. There's a lot of fighters who are saying other fighters are scared of them, Joshua Clottey, I couldn't find him. Kermit Cintron, I couldn't find him. Antonio Margarito, I couldn't find him. Sugar Shane Mosley, I couldn't find him. Actually Sugar Shane Mosley was spotted today in the Las Vegas mall but I couldn't get to him in time. Floyd Mayweather Jr, I couldn't find him. Paul Williams, I couldn't find him. Miguel Cotto, I couldn't find him. I'm back and I'm looking for everybody. I got my mind right and I'm ready for war. I'm out here in the boxing capital and I'm looking for great fights."
Editor: You've been in Vegas quite a bit lately.
Zab Judah: "I've been in Vegas quite a while now and I've got a permanent residence out here. This is one of the greatest cities in the world as far as my career and what I'm trying to achieve. I just love it here, the people love me here and I'm just trying to make it my home."
Editor: Are you ready to face any of the names you mentioned earlier right now?
ZJ: "Right now I'm ready for anybody. Everybody knows Zab Judah is scared of nobody. Nobody aight. If you think you're somebody just know that I'm scared of nobody, anytime, anywhere, anyplace."
Editor: Cintron and Clottey are supposed to be fighting each other...
ZJ: (cutting in) "I understand that, but Cintron's hand might still need some rest so that leaves things wide open. Joshua Clottey is the number one contender, if he thinks he's so great and he wants to step up the plate I'll kick his ass anywhere like it was Gleason's. I used to **** him out all the time, it's nothing. And you know I respect Kermit Cintron, but this is my sport and this is the hurt business, he's good as what he does, but it wouldn't be enough for me. I'm telling you I'm looking for all of these great fighters who are supposed to live in Las Vegas and I can't find them. I bumped into a couple of UFC fighters today, are they leaving me no choice but to go to the MMA? I want to stay where I'm comfortable at and I don't want to go over there, but if I got to then I got to, they might leave me no choice. 08 is a beautiful year, it's my favorite number and we're going to do what we have to do."
Editor: Floyd Mayweather also has a permanent residence in Las Vegas. Have you not seen him lately?
ZJ: "I wonder if Vegas is like Los Angeles, where they have the maps of the stars houses. We're going to look for a map with Floyd Mayweather's house on it so we can go to his door and politely ask him to do the damn thing. Floyd is a friend of mine and I want to know if he has any advice for his brother here."
Editor: You left Ricky Hatton's name off that list.
ZJ: "I'm from Brownsville, Brooklyn and I'm not a real good swimmer so I can't make it across the pond. When I get my swimming skills up I'll get over there or maybe I'll hijack a boat and get there quicker. Listen up G, I've also been seen at several Lakers games, so I got my eyes open for Mr. Oscar De La Hoya as well. I was at the Rose Bowl and I'm looking for Oscar De La Hoya, but I can't find him. Oscar is a great fighter and I want to make it happen, he's still looking for somebody and I'm looking for him. My feet are sore and I got blisters on them from looking for guys."
Editor: Have you looked for Ricardo Mayorga?
ZJ: "Mayorga is a good friend of mine and I like him."
Editor: If the Mayorga fight creates the ultimate super villian for Mayweather would you go through with the fight?
ZJ: "If I had to go through Mayorga to get to Mayweather then Mayorga would have to get it."
Editor: With Brian Young and Bob Arum working together, shouldn't it be easy to make a fight with Margarito?
ZJ: "After I get tired of walking up and down the strip I'm going to have to make my way to see Mr. Bob Arum. And I'm going to walk there too. I'm walking the streets and I'm looking for the top fighters everywhere I go. I'm looking for these guys man."
Editor: If you can't find anyone significant walking around Sin City, when might your next fight take place?
ZJ: "If we can't make a fight with any of the champions, then we'll go for whoever the next best in line is until we find somebody. I think David Estrada would be a good example of somebody we could end up with if none of these guys want to make a fight. I want to fight in March or sooner if possible."
Editor: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?
ZJ: "Happy New Year to everybody. Please, if you see me walking down the streets looking for my opponents, please walk with me."
Editors Note: This interview was conducted before Judah told us that he could be fighting Antonio Margarito on April 26.
