Didn't Gene Tunney have like 2 fights at heavyweight or something? I thought he was mainly a badass at light heavyweight.
Tunney was as tough as they come and a masterful boxer who was pure class and way ahead of his time. I'd pick him over any of todays heavyweight champions.

Sweet! I got to 12! That was actually hard work, I hate the heavyweight division, and white people tend to suck when they get that heavy so... yeah, it's quite a challenge.

I'm a little bit on the uninformed side when it comes to heavyweights, even though I recognize all of those names... except for Rosenbloom and Burns.
Primo Carnera was the Tye Fields back in his day too.

The thing is that the definition of a successful heavyweight now is a little different to the definition of a successful heavyweight back then. Back then if you won the title you were successful. In fact winning the title gave you the opportunity to set yourself up for life with a single defense. Nowadays you have to unify and defend multiple times because there's about a hundred and fifty different belts at each weight!

Tommy Morrison gets a mention. He beat a lot of the same guys Tyson got credit for coming up like Pinklon Thomas, James Tillis, Carl "the truth" Williams and Donovan "Razor" Ruddock. His biggest win was beating George Foreman before he won the Titles again.
