    Malignaggi-Ngoudjo Post-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - And so it begins.

The first major cable show of 2008 is now lost to the rear view mirror…but not so lost as to preclude another look. Saturday night on Showtime Championship Boxing, live from the Atlantic City Bally’s Hotel and Casino, leading Jr. Welterweight contender and titlist Paulie Malignaggi (24-1, 5 KO, Ring Magazine #2, IBF titlist) of Brooklyn, New York prevailed by twelve round unanimous decision over 28-year old Canadian-based Cameroon battler Herman Ngoudjo (16-2, 9 KO, unrated). it seems you made a pretty good prediction crold, well done. I haven't seen the fight yet but when i do i'll post here again, it's a shame that these threads get next to no attention these days.

That's a fair assessment of last night's fight. I agree that Paulie's vulnerability makes for a more exciting fight than when he's pitching shutouts against less-talented fighters.

If Malignaggi wants to make some money by fighting Hatton,fine...but he will get his ass kicked, and kicked again.

Malignaggi is one of my favourite fighters. But I need to be objective here:
I was disappointed that he kept moving to his left, thereby keeping HN's big right hand in play. Buddy gave him that counsel repeatedly.
Also, PM tired late, and did not finish strong... even though it wasn't that brutal of a fight and the activity level wasn't that high.

Paulie fancies himself as a poor man's Mayweather. I can't blame him, because there are worse fight-night role models than FMJ. But he made mistakes last night that Floyd would never make.

Paulie attributed some of his rust to the seven-month layoff. But guess what? If you are a big-fight , championship-level boxer, you will only fight twice a year. He needs to be able to acclimate himself to six months between fights.

I don't know which category you would file those under. Probably Intangibles, because those are ring intelligence and preparation issues. But I would give Paulie a C for Intangibles last night.

He didn't do as bad as a lot of people make it seem. He went to the wrong side (his natural choice, and got caught well in the 7th. Other then that, I didn't see a HUGE deal with his performance. He seems to perform up to his challenge. (N'Dou being a title fight, it's bound to bring something special.)

If he had jabbed.. 10 times more each round, it would have been a completely different fight. Even bigger win for Paulie. 116-112 for Paulie, to me personally.

Not his best fight, BY FAR, but he won, clearly and still has MUCH more to offer.

Al Bernstein, WAY too on Herman's nuts. Just hated the idea of saying something cool to Paul or something.

Neither here nor there, C+ grade for Paul, and he still gets the UD. He can do much better.

Paulie got his ass kicked all over the place last night. Every time he faces somebody good at 140 he gets his ass kicked. He fought a weight drained Cotto and he got his ass kicked. He got his ass kicked even worse last night. He could barely make it out of the fight on his feet. He didn't connect with 3 clean shots the whole fight and he got outjabbed. Yet biased Americans say he won the fight. This was just a ridiculous performance by a "champion".

You, are clearly biased. Not three clean punches, huh?

If you could, you should ban yourself.

People say Hatton looked bad against Collazo and it was a close fight. I agree but Hatton at least landed some clean shots and scored a measly knockdown. Paulie didn;t even land anything clean. HAtton holds? Paulie holds more and he runs too.
