Ricky Hatton says he actually stole the nickname from a pro wrestler, Bret "The Hitman" Hart. And Bret Hart stole his nickname from Tommy Hearns (he actually asked Hearns if he could use it). So you could say Hatton stole his from Hearns.


Lots of people have used the "Sugar" nickname. From Robinson to Leonard to Mosley to some Belgian boxer whos name I can't remember and MMA fighter "Sugar" Rashad Evans.


Smokin' Bert Cooper obviously took his nickname from his trainer Smokin' Joe Frazier

There were some other guys who used the "Sugar" nickname during Robinson's time.

Robinson took offense and talked trash to them about having that name, and then beat the **** out of them in the ring.

How about guys just using the same boxing name as others, like Arnold Cream giving himself the boxing name of "Jersey Joe Walcott" after Barbados Jersey Joe?
