He throws a lot of punches. His speed isn't that great and he has decent stamina because he throws a lot of punches. His connect percentage is about average but he lands a lot of punches because he throws a lot of punches. Did I mention that he's tall?

this is a good fight for williams for about 3 rounds, then cotto
gets inside and begins to break him down en route to a mid-late round stoppage.

following the fight williams calls roy jones about a tryout for a usbl team.
Didn't Margarito already done that to him?

As a williams fan i didn't discredit Margarito in the past, what i said and still say is that Rocky style "It's not about how hard you can hit... but how hard you can be hit... and still come forward" only works in:

        a) Movies featuring Sly;
        b) Incridible missmatches ie 27 year old vs 36 year old, 154 pound guy vs 148 pound guy, so on

Both Cotto and Margarito share that style. People think Rocky and reality vanishes...

Average??? He fights drained because he's so tall i doubt he feels at ease at 147. He throws over 100 punches per round and he could go 12 with injured ribs vs Margarito. You call that average stamina?

His stamina is decent, please read before you criticise. His connect percentage is about average, but he lands a lot because he throws a lot. Williams hasn't impressed me at all. He doesn't have great technique, he lacks real power, he's very ungainly, he's freakishly tall for his weight but he doesn't use his height, his best win is over Margarito and, in case you have forgotten, was by a narrow two-round margin. Not the massive blowout that the revisionists claim.

I'm hearing "pound for pound" about this guy but his height and his output are what have got him this far. If he were by some miracle able to clean up the welter division (and that's a huge "if" - he's going to encounter a big one-punch guy sooner or later and get starched or he's going to meet someone who is a considerably better boxer like Mayweather or Cotto who will frustrate him all night) he's going to really suffer if he moves up in weight because while he'll probably be OK at 154 lbs (one of boxing's traditionally weakest divisions) at Middleweight he'll be punching far below his weight and any higher he's packing powder-puffs.

Maybe Williams will surprise me and learn how to box, then he might be worth something. But right now I'm seeing someone who is getting by on his physical gifts and quite happy doing so thankyou very much.

That win was neither good nor convincing and it was over a man who has questionable credentials. Margarito and Williams are very similar in that respect, they both seem to have a vocal fanbase who are always telling people how good they are but there is very little to back it up at the moment.

                huh?
                what fight did you watch?
margarito stood around trying to pick off shots instead of punchin.
when he did punch, he hurt williams.
your rocky reference makes no sense.
cotto and margarito are completely different fighters.

instead of sittin around on the outside, cotto gets inside and breaks all williams' ribs. williams ain't as fast as judah and cotto did fine with zab, so, if speed ain't a problem for cotto, what will williams have, height? no, cotto gets in and breaks ribs.

a year after the fight williams shares playing time with the professor on the And 1 team.

How about he make A defense of his "title" before he tries going for the gusto. He's essentially young, in a career with only one meaningful win. How about.. I dunno.. THREE, before he's getting the big checks.

Funny how you say the boxing community was hyping Margarito, and now you're hyping Paul Williams, when he's only beaten the long list of legitimate fighters like Margarito, umm...oh that's it.

Wait until you see him in with the type of group Cotto has ALREADY beaten, guys that were undisputed champions, or went on to hold a title belt after Cotto clobbered them. The boxing community only wants to talk about Cotto now because HE'S UNDEFEATED AND HAS BEATEN A ****LOAD OF GOOD FIGHTERS INCLUDING MOSLEY. He deserves the hype. Williams? Not so much.
