New School Pick of the Week: Yuriorkis Gamboa

By Jake Donovan - His looks will remind you of Miguel Cotto. His powerboxing fighting style is shades of Sugar Shane Mosley. The hand-speed, the perfect blend of speed and power, is reminiscent of Roy Jones Jr. at his absolute best. In-fighting skills? Think a young and much trimmer James Toney. His rapid rise through the ranks would make even Floyd Mayweather Jr. jealous. There's even the in-the-ring self-confidence of countryman Joel Casamayor. [details]

Hopefully he won't turn out to be a fraud. I don't think many have fought the kind of competition he has after just 7 fights as a pro (except someone like Leon Spinks).

I knew him mid of last year when searching in Youtube for Cuban boxing something like that and seen Gamboa.

He is mostly fighting in Germany I think. so he wont be coming to America any time soon.

My first look at Gamboa was from his second pro fight and immediately I was like "this guy is the future get on the bandwagon now".

If you want to be a real Gamboa fan, bet 1000$ on every fight of his from now on and hope he retires undefeated.

I wouldn't make that much money, who the hell is going to think a kid THAT talented is going to lose in the near future. 100 bucks says he has a title by his 15th fight.
