Former WBC light featherweight champion Yo-Sam Choi, who has been in a coma since winning a bout on December 25th in Seoul, South Korea, passed away at around midnight Wednesday after being removed from a ventilator. On Tuesday the fighter was declared brain dead by the Seoul Asan Hospital after two examinations by a neurosurgeon-led nine-member panel. According to the Korea Times, Choi's heart, kidneys, liver and corneas were transplanted to patients on the Korean Network for Organ Sharing (KONOS) patient list. Choi (32-5, 19 KOs) won the WBC light flyweight title from Saman Sorjaturong in October 1999 and defended it four times, finally relinquishing it to Jorge Arce in July 2002. The *********.com staff sends its sympathies to Choi's family and friends.
