WORLD EXCLUSIVE: YANKEE STADIUM SNAGS HOPKINS-CALZAGHE!

The historic Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York, has been chosen as the venue for the titanic showdown between Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins and England's Joe Calzaghe set for April 13, 2008.

The Yankee Stadium has been home to some thirty memorable boxing championships, including the famous 1938 Joe Louis victory over Germany’s Max Schmeling. It also hosted Pope Paul VI when he celebrated mass before an 80,000+ crowd in 1965.

I'm not sure I believe it. No offense to the threadmaker, of course, but I can't believe it.

I didn't think the fight was finalized as well. No offense to the thread starter but I'd like to see some other places report on it before I believe it.

I think they can fill this building. Not sure if this is official, nonetheless. BUt I think, with the ability to, Calzaghe fans can come over with about 25,000 fans. I really think that. First fight in America, so his fans can afford it if Hattons can. That might be under-selling it, too. Then, topple that with the 10-15,000 fans that Hopkins can bring in. It's an international, BIG fight. True world champions fighting eachother. For the thrill of a BIG STADIUM fight alone, you can factor in quite a bit of fans.

This will do pretty well at the gate, I believe.

Boxrec told me that Sam Soliman was going to fight Jermain Taylor for the middleweight championship, Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones were going to have a rematch, and that Manny Pacquiao versus Juan Manuel Marquez was set for March 2006.

the problem with what your saying is that only adds up to 40,000 yankee stadium holds 53,000 for a baseball game plus prob 1,000 to 2000 more for a boxing match probably they should just have it at a smaller venue so that its not an embarrassing half empty stadium
