I don't think Chavez ever really recovered from the tragedy of Leavander Johnson. I can't imagine how a person goes about dealing with that kind of traumatic experience. Chavez has always been entertaining, a real fighter's fighter.

If Chavez has anything left to offer, we'll know very soon.

Chavez injursed the knee prior to the fight with Diaz and day of the fight I got a call from a match-maker telling me something odd will happen in the fight. He wouldn't specify, but afterwards he told me it was Chavez' knee. As I left the Dawson/Adamek post-presser I stopped at a local wing joint and Chavez' team was seated next to my table. So I moved over for a bit and just talked with him. Humble cat who felt like he failed to give the fans what they deserved, he denied any injury prior to the bout at that time, but it was obvious. I never asked about Johnson, I figured he had more than enough disappointment that night already. He is though a class act and his best days are behind him, but for his sake, just one more solid performance from him would be nice. The man's career has had enough tradegy and downfalls. I see some attributes in Chavez as I see in Emile Griffith. Emile will talk about Benny Paret now, but for so long it killed him inside, it still eats at him, but time has healed some of the pain. Neither man can be at fault, but I'm damned sure they feel like they are though.

I was just in Austin (and should be back down next week permanetly), I trained at Lord's Gym, home of Jesus Chavez, but I'm going to be switching over to Competitive Training Center because I've seen the groundplan and it looks to be a top-notch facility.
