2008... the year we lose 3 top P4P fighters?

Floyd has said how he would like a 2 year break, I think he will come back and beat Cotto then retire for good personally though.

Joe Calzaghe as we all know will retire next year after 2 fights maximum (maybe even 1 if he loses to Hops).

Bernard Hopkins will probably bow out as well after the Hopkins-Calzaghe fight and he is ranked in the top 5 P4P from many posters here.

Roy Jones Jr might not be ranked as a P4P fighter anymore but he is still a living legend in the sport. Will he retire after Tito fight? Calzaghe fight?

Oscar De La Hoya may well retire as well after his probable fight with Cotto and we may also see Mosley retire too.

The year 2007 was a great year for boxing but I expect 2008 to be better. I think it's a bit of a shame these guys are leaving though and more importantly who will replace them? I don't see us getting another fighter like Floyd for at least another 10 or so years, he is THAT good and we wont really appreciate what these guys have done for the sport until their gone.

Its sad to see them leave the sport but we have so many up and coming stars and prospects. kessler will fill calzaghes void, along with chad dawson. Paul williams, miguel cotto, hopfully andre berto will all fill the welterweight to junior middleweight void when they are gone. Pavlik and taylor will be around for awhile to bring some great fights. 2008 will be great.

I personally see 2008 as the year of the prospects.

We will get to see a large number of bright prospects step up and fill the shoes of the greats of today.

      Jorge Linares
      Andre Berto
      Andy Lee
      The Peterson Brothers
      Paul Williams
      Miguel Cotto
      Yuriorkis Gamboa
      Eddie Chambers
      Chad Dawson

Personally I am most exited to see what happens with Jorge Linares, I see him as a future hall of famer, and I expect a good year from him.

I should include Pavlik and Kessler on that list, but I view them as firmly established already where as Miguel Cotto is still trying to prove himself.

He had two good wins, nodoubt, but Cotto still has much to prove. Hopefully he can get it done in his next fight. A good outing vs De La Hoya would cement his positions as a superstar fighter.

Dude since when does beating a drag queen make you a superstar?
