Just wondering what you guys think. You think too many fighters are being inducted that don't really deserve to be when you dig deep into what they've actually accomplished?

Accomplishment in the key. I think some boxers are inducted into the hall of fame due to sentimental reasons rather than purely what they did while active. A perfect example is Arturro Gatti. Many fans are hoping he'll be inducted, some expect him to be- but most of us would aruge he didn't accomplish enough to get there. He had amazing heart, he gave us some amazing battles...but based on pure achievement; overall record, titles, weight classes fought at, opponents on his resume- no, Gatti does not belong.

The HoF needs to be based on achievment; not how we feel about a fighter. You can hate Floyd to death, he most certainly needs to be inducted....he's accomplished quite a bit already.

i agree with almost all of this.

gatti was a b level fighter (as far as achievements go) at best.

his best moments were those against mickey ward...another b level fighter at best.

he gave great moments in his career and no doubt he had a TON of heart but he didnt accomplish half of what fighters like de la hoya, mosley, mayweather, b-hop, etc. have accomplished in this era.

the trilogy goes in the hof and will be talked about for decades but as far as pure achievement i agree...he hasnt done enough.

Geek marks like Dan Rafael has said he will vote for Gatti, but not for someone who was a superior fighter like Buddy McGirt. A great champion like Danny "Little Red" Lopez should have been in years ago, but the West coast isn't represented fairly.

Gatti won titles in 2 weight classes. He won 40 pro fights. He also was the winner of 1 of the great trilogies of all time (Gatti/Ward). I dont know if he's HOF but he had an above average career.

Gatti was a tough guy,a popular guy and had a big heart...but he does not belong in the Hall of Fame. That should be reserved for excellence only...not slightly above average.

Gatti did win 2 out of 3 against Ward, but Ward was just a tough guy journeyman.

I dont care about the boxing hall fame because I dont know who votes for who gets in.

I think maybe fighters should select among themselves who should be in the boxing hall fame, choose a counsil of like 40 guys or whatever and let them decide and than maybe have the media writers have some votes too.

Really I dont care though what these guys who own the hall of fame think though since I have no idea who they are.

that would bring some of the respect back into the boxing as well because if you ever want to be in the hall of fame, if that's important to you.

I think this definately a potential problem. For me a good step to solving is to increase the numbers of years you need to have been retired from 5 to at least 10 if not more.

This way you get a much better perspective of a fighters overall place in boxing history. What you all think?

I give the HOF some slack when they sometimes let in fighters who werent "Elite". One of the reason's is the Hall of Fame is the final step in the career of a Fighter,Bobby Chacon wasnt ever a P4P fighter, but he gave his soul to boxing.

I have no problem if Gatti gets in, he had alot of great great fights. If I wanted to show some boxing to my friends, they ussually got a kick out of the Gatti fights.
