Joe was a threat, DM wasn't.

          Calzaghe is an excellent fighter.

But the right hand counters that Reid was able to land on him........ eventually making some people think he lost the fight; to me is like a two minute flash rain compared to the typhoon of counterpunches he'd get ****ing reamed with given he fought the version of Roy in discussion.

I don't think Calzaghe is on the same tier as Roy Jones Jr.

I don't either, RWK. But Calzaghe is better than all but one or two of Roy's opponents (and equal to those), and his first-rate chin would have kept him in it. A young Calzaghe had very good power and his unorthodox timing could have made a Tarver happen before Tarver happened.

Granted, prime Roy was the better fighter but if anyone could have laid him out, Calz was the guy.

I thought you had him on your top p4p list at #7. Or was that just the token white guy to claim you're not prejudiced?

Look at some of the shots Kessler was able to land on Calzaghe, prime roy jones would land more of those shots and harder ones too, i agree with you calzaghe could have given jones problems, but style wise its a bad matchup for calzaghe, he's a fighter who relies on handspeed and reflexes to pull of those fast combos whilst dodging other people's, he wouldnt be able to get away with that **** against Jones, who was a better boxer, stronger and faster.

Jones by late tko or 12 round decision.

Anyway, the poster forgot to mention that Roy was the P4P King at the time, more famous, held a better title, Light-Heavyweight Champion, brought in more money, etc. Even if this was after Roy's DQ Loss, most still considered Roy undefeated and he wasn't about to get ripped off again if it went to a decision. Although, this is Roy's fault. He should have been knocking heads out instead of dragging fights along like another poster mentioned, but they say it's because he didn't want to hurt nobody because of his boy Gerald Mcclellan. If he decided to KO Joe, he wouldn't have to worry about a decision, however, once again, I'm not sure how much Joe was selling where he was, so Joe would still have to come to the States, which he never did.

Now, Roy is willing to go because he said he {Roy} has to prove himself once again after the losses...Joe is above him at the moment so Joe is in the lead position, unlike before.
That's the main reason Roy never became a ppv star. People didn't want to bother paying for a fight when they knew what the outcome was.

Jones by wide UD. To fast and to quick for Prime Joe although I do believe Joe would have been one of Roy's toughest test Roy would outclass him. I would have loved to see that fight.
