    Fernando Vargas Appreciation Thread

So Vargas called it a day after the Mayorga fight. But lets be honest after he had those series of injuries he was never the same fighter he once was. I only began to be a fan of his recently. But i think he showed a lot of heart ever time he fought.

Its just hard to think that Vargas new he wasn't the same guy after those injuries. yet he went out there and gave it his best, knowing he was well off his best.

Without the injuries, how different do you think Vargas's career would have been?

Vargas wasn't the same after Tito brutally kicked the **** out of him for 12 rounds. Of course that was a big mismatch but back then he was an arrogant prick that deserved to get beat up.

yeah, you're right bro. I don't know, maybe he became like that dude Sampson, that after they cut his hair...he became weak. I remember Vargas kickin *ss when he had this rooster thing growing on his forehead...after he cut it off...he was getting ****** around.

All in all, Vargas was exciting to watch in his early 20's. He did knock down Tito, but so does every body else. Those left hooks Trinidad was thowing to Vargas' temple were wicked! Looking back, after he lost that day, he could see it his eyes, like he was deeply hurt, not just the beat down. Anyway, he took the 'roids cause of a nagging back injury. Hadn't it been for that, I think he wouldn't have called it a day.

We must have seen a different fight because Fernando fought his ass off and the fight was close.

How many fighters do you know at that young of age can come back from being knocked down twice, low-blowed numerous times, and battle back to take control in the mid-rounds?

          Fernando Vargas was something special.

Vargas was a great fighter to watch in his prime. And he by no means was finished off by Trinidad. And Vargas is the only boxer to ever! make Felix Trinidad cry at a press confrence after a fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And even when Trinidad was announced the winner he looked so tired, looked like a fighter would look after being in a war or wars which in fact he was in. Vargas deserves respect he alway came to fight and what other champion would give a dangerous opponet like Winky Wright a shot at his title when he was on the verge of fighting Ike Quartey? Vargas walked the talk, but didnt' always win.

Agree, if things have gone differently, just think of what he could have been.
