Nearly a decade since the last heavy unification bout?

Okay, it didn't actually matter when The Fat Jamoc discarded some belts from '99-03, cos we knew who the man was anyway, but it'll be the best part of FIVE YEARS since he retired and we only finally get a single unification in January?

What the Hell took so long?

Politics and the lack of an urge for the titleholders to face one another. LET'S GET IT ON.

I sense an urgency in boxing this year that there hasn't been for a while. 2007... best year in boxing for a while?

No way. The actual unification bout is IN 2008. 08 will top 07, bank on it.

Sorry, I meant for a while, as in, for the last few years? I didn't mean it's going to get **** from now on. I was changing the subject in a way. It was like in 2007 the promoters said "we'll get some bouts people want to see".

What an embarrasement to the sport of boxing. Good thing Floyd brought the sport back to life with his 2 mega fights this year.

Chagaev will have a good chance at unifying. he has a good chin, power, great pure boxer and stamina. if Wlad had a good chin, he could easilly because undisputed champ but of course he has that chin problem. what will happen when he gets tagged on the chin by a power puncher? he just cant take a shot.

I won't be too impressed even if Wladimir beats Sultan and unifies the titles,
I don't hold Ibragimov in high regard.

If Wlad unifies all the belts and beats all the titleholders then he should be recognized as a truly great heavyweight.

Oh my mistake but I concur fully. I really think the UFC explosion aided in that decision. At the slightest hint of competition boxing put it into overdrive and left the competition in the dust.
