... she likes boxing, what can I do?
I remember once, she liked Jeff Lacy so she used to get me to put him on discs for her as she didn't have access to SKY. In the middle of watching the Pemberton fight she turned and said to me (bear in mind this was the peak of the "90% of NSB say Calzaghe will get pwned" era) "He... misses a lot, doesn't he?" Why did my aunt notice something that not one of you "knowledgable" boxing posters mentioned?
Anyway, I showed her Hopkins vs. Tarver to try and give her some vague idea of the guy's capabilities. Here's the way the conversation went (and apologies for my blatantly bigoted comments)...
Me: "Yeah, so this bout looks like it could be made in around March."
Aunt: "Do you think this Hopkins could win then?"
Me: "Welllllllllllllllll......... not really. I mean, he's 43."
Aunt: "So why are they picking this bout for then? Can't they find anyone younger for Joe to fight?"
Me: "Well, this Hopkins is a Yank, isn't he? You know what Yanks are like... they're thick, aren't they? They think all Yanks are great just because they're Yanks, so as soon as he beats a Yank they'll think he'll have done something."
Aunt: "Oh, right."
Then we both watched the fight and fell asleep. Good old Bore Hard.
