He was a lazy boxer which is why he could get outboxed and outspeeded.

I mean with Toney you got two extremes:
-the master boxer puncher like he was with barkley
-or the lazy, out of shape plodder who laid on the ropes half of the fight like with the fight with tiberi

6th fight: SD over 1-0 Arthur Willis.
21st fight: Draw with 24-11 Sanderline Williams.
25th fight: SD over 18-0 Merqui Sosa.
27th fight: 11th round TKO over 36-0 Michael Nunn when he was behind so far on the scorecards that he would need a knockout.
28th fight: SD over 29-1-1 Reggie Johnson.
30th fight: Draw with 42-1 Mike McCallum.
31st fight: SD over 22-2-3 Dave Tiberi.
34th fight: MD over 43-1-1 Mike McCallum.

I mean, he had good opposition in these close calls, except for Willis, Williams and Tiberi, but still... was it not a concern for the Jones Jr. fight that Toney had barely escaped defeat so many times?
Toney is a throw back to the old fighters because he fought everybody out there. if you fought every style and didn't care who you fight, of course there would be styles that would give you trouble. you have fighters like Hopkins that duked people when he was in his prime so of course he never had any close fights to lesser opposition. Toney fought all comers and didn't care, hes a warrior.

When fighting at the top he was being very impressive. Tiberi was robbed BTW.

If it was a not so important fight, it was one hand the way he always is and was in the ring every now and then... LAZY. On the other hand he was often out of shape.

There were probably worries of him being out of shape, and we all know what we saw...

Toney was just a natural talent. He didnt use work ethic to get to the top. You give him B Hop's work ethic and the sky is the limit.

Also, DW, Toney had been a pro for only 6 months more than Roy by the time they fought, but while Jones had 26 fights, Toney had 46 fights.

Apparently Toney was a hard sparrer, often using SEVEN-MINUTE ROUNDS and going to war

I wish James Toney would've fought Wladimir....It would be a pleasure to watch Toney get his racist fat ass KO'd and humiliated.

I take it you don't agree with me that Wlad would KO Toney...you just threw your credibility out the window.
