    No Ordinary Joe

Any person out there who trully appreciates boxing should read "No Ordinary Joe", the autobiography of Joe Calzaghe. Its a cracking read with some good stories you dont usually get to hear in post fight interviews, and it also throws new light on some fights where he didnt perform at his best and offers honest explanations as to why. He goes in depth into his injury problems, and how at a very young age his wrist was injured so severely he was told he could never box again. The most memorable part for me, was when he quoted the words of Jeff Lacy's promoter, Gary Shaw, after breaking his hand in the Ashira fight and postponing his fight with Lacy:

Joe Calzaghe is a disgrace. I dont believe this injury is legit. He never, ever wanted to fight Jeff Lacy. I suspected all along that Calzaghe didnt want any of this. I never thought they'd fight us, I always suspected it was all a bluff. There are some fighters who are willing to fight anyone, any time and there are fighters who just dont fit into that warrior category. Joe Calzaghe is one of the latter.
    -Gary Shaw, 12 September, 2005

    ^^Almost seems like a joke now^^

Foreward is written by Sugar Ray Leonard and he tells of how he became a Calzaghe fan, an amusing story in itself. If you like Joe Calzaghe, even if you dont but you respect him as a fighter, you should read this book.

Gary Shaw's face was a picture towards the latter rounds of the Calzaghe-Lacy fight, he looked truly shell shocked.

It's a very good read and very honest, which is rare in itself for these types of books.

Got the book a few weeks ago, great read. Written a lot like the Ricky Hatton book though, and having just read the Hatton book it was a little annoying, but, yeah, great book. Puts Calzaghe in a different light than what you'd expect him to be like.
