Rees eyes a date with the Hitman

GAVIN REES launched a cheeky bid to face Ricky Hatton by claiming: I'd love to give him a right going over.

Hatton is currently weighing up his options after being knocked out for the first time in his career by Floyd Mayweather.

And WBA light-welterweight champion Rees believes he would be the perfect opponent for the Hitman.

The Welshman said: "I'd love to get it on with Ricky.

"It would hand Ricky a shot at a title, it's a fight the British public will love, it'll be England v Wales and two warriors going toe-to-toe — it ticks all the boxes.

"The WBA belt is a very prestigious world title so why wouldn't Ricky fancy going for it?

"I want the big fights and it would be a right tear-up.

"I'm a quality boxer who would love to give Ricky a right going over — and I believe I'd beat him."

Rees has been told to forget about Hatton by his trainer and manager Enzo Calzaghe.

But the 27-year-old insists he is a match for the Mancunian.

He added: "If anyone thinks Ricky versus me would be a mismatch, then they're having a laugh.

"I respect Ricky, he's an incredible boxer and showed great courage by putting his reputation on the line to fight Mayweather.

"But now he's looking for a title, he might like a go at me."

If I was Hatton, I'd take the fight, it's a very winnable fight for him and I don't see him losing it.

Rees vs Witter to unify and than Ricky will face Mal and the winner of that bout. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

This makes sense. Hatton gets a tune-up and a shot at a recognised title. Rees gets the biggest fight he's ever likely to get which translates into the biggest payday he's ever going to get plus a shot, albeit a long one, at making a name for himself.

Although I like Gavin, he hasn't got the power to bother Hatton. Hatton KO 6 or 7
