I like the sport the way it is. Too much production can quickly turn into a joke.
Should Boxing be more theatrical as far as event production?

the 24/7s, countdowns, hbo buzzez, site news is enough as far as promotion goes. what it's missing is good undercards. say what you will about Don King, but the man used to put up some sick as undercards back in the day. more intriguing fighters on the same night equals more interest and raise in ratings. you get a crappy undercard, you get garbage results.
but with today's boxing economy and politics it's a rare treat for a fan to get more than 2 quality names at a time. in fact the PPV you get is the 2 quality names thus you get the paid event as advertised. the rest is all ducksComment

i think doing a little extra wouldnt hurt as long as it doesnt turn into a circus...since fans will be paying to see boxing; not a broadway show or the wwe. What I mean is, should promoters try to make an effort to create a more dramatic atmosphere on fight night. Lightshows, fireworks, dancers etc. This could help reel in the casual fan. If the fight doesn't pan out to be something exciting, the experience of the whole event may lessen the damage. Or should the most exciting part of the night just be the Main Bout alone?
i think adding some girls would make ANY straight male more interested.
However i think it comes down to the cards...
Better/more undercards would be the solution.
Thats one of my main complaints with boxing is that the fights are what is SUPPOSED to be a big/huge main event that is going to be action packed and it turns out to be boring or one sided...
adding in MORE undercards (sometimes we dont get any...not counting ppv...but like the hopkins/calzaghe fight or de la hoya v. forbes tune up fight)
and better undercards...on ppv's there are usually 4 or so undercards but usually they are one sided (note majority of the undercards on the cotto v. mosley fight; they ended in one round ko's for the most part)...
however look at the cintron v. feliciano fight on the undercard of vargas v. mayorga...that was what i consider a very good undercard fight...GREAT compared to what we usually get.
however promoters fear the undercards could steal the spotlight away from the main event and it could (like pavlik v. miranda on the taylor v. spinks undercard) but i think for the fans overall its worth it.
i for one (cant speak for everyone) would like to see 3/4 very good undercards (that may or may not steal away from the main event) and see a good night of fights rather than see boring/one sided undercards or two guys i have no idea who they area and have a great main event...
promoters should attempt to stack the cards the best they can...even if its better than the main event the fans will be happy and pay for more...Comment

Boxing need the "wow" aspect back, like when they would show a fight in the 80's, like SRL and ****, he wanted to be special, an art. THen you had Tyson, people would b intrigued.Comment
