Who will be the Heir to King Calzaghe's throne at Super Middleweight?

With Joe Calzaghe moving up to 175, we now have to look for the future of the Super Middleweight Division. The 3 leading candidates are Mikkel Kessler,Lucian Bute and Carl Froch. Mikkel Kessler would be the obvious choice to follow in Calzaghe's footsteps, but I have also been very impressed with the IBF champ Lucian Bute and the hard hitting Carl Froch.

Lurking in the background at 168 are formidable fighters like Edison Miranda, Anthony Mundine, Denis Inkin, Jeff Lacy, Vitali Tsypko, Allan Green, Sakio Bika, Librado Andrade, etc. These guys are all good fighters, but none of them are Undisputed Championship material.

Undisputed Middleweight Champion Kelly Pavlik may eventually move up to 168 and so will Jermain Taylor, unless he decides to retire after getting knocked out cold by Kelly Pavlik again in the rematch.

    Who is the Heir Apparent??

It's Kessler, I think he is excellent and like Joe said he is only going to improve.

Mundine has the ability but wouldn't dare risk taking on a fighter that could actually beat him.

Agree. He is the only one with the ability to beat Kessler. But i doubt he will take the big fights.

It depends on his mindset. If he continues to fight bums and rip off the aussie public, Kessler will reign in super middleweight.

If he wants to step it up, he can very well beat Kessler. But he would need to fight well on the night obviously.

I just feel Bute has a lot of power but not the ability to beat Kessler. Andrade, Green, Inkin, Froch, i don't think the have the ability either.

So the division will most likely be dominated by Kessler. But if Mundine wants it, he can very well take it, if things go his way. But the Kess remains in charge.

Andre Ward has a bright future at 168 & the winner of Pavlik/Taylor 2 if they decide to stay up at 168 can certainly be a force in the division.

What you say has merit. A lot of people think the winner of Pavlik/Taylor at super middleweight would be dominant. But to be honest, i can't see either of the two beating Kessler. There both great fighters. But Kessler is awesome.
