Bowe had a great jab and straight punches, so he could handle himself on the outside, and even better on the inside. But his defense would be his biggest weakness, but he has a chin and heart to back him up on that. I would have given Bowe a good chance if they fought at that time.
i understand but even the younger less devoloped Lewis was still very fluent with his boxing. just look at the bone crusher smith fight. that was when Lewis was not even in his peak yet. and i get the feeling that you are getting the impression that Bowe has a good chin based on the Holyfield fights. im not saying that he does not, but Holyfield was a blown up cruiserweight and was not a power puncher at heavyweight. Lennox Lewis is most likley top 10 in the hardest hitting heavyweights list (of all time). i just cant picture Bowe taking the kind of shots he took against Holyfield with Lewis. with Bowes defence, i cant see him getting past that power left jab and the big right hand would be damaging. Bowe would have his opportunities, but if i was a betting man, i would have go with Lennox.

hello? bowe didnt face any big punchers! he avoided big punchers for a reason. he never took any big shots on the chin until he faced golota and even golota isnt a real big puncher and hurt bowe badly in both fights and probably would have stopped him if he wasnt such a mental midget

Lol the best puncher Bowe faced was probably Golota or Holyfield

          Lewis faced:

          Mike Tyson
          David Tua
          Vitali Klitschko
          Donovan Ruddock
          Frank Bruno
          Tommy Morrison
          Shannon Briggs

i thought you said early Lennox? early Lewis was only knocked out once from a lucky punch from Oliver Mccall and it was a quick stoppage (curtisy of a Don King set up) if you want to go with devoloped Lewis, i can say that Vitali is a power puncher and he hit Lewis with some hard shots, and only 2 people have went the distance with Vitali so that shows how hard he hits. you can actually make a case that Lennox had the better chin than Bowe. take a look at this video of the second round between Lennox and Vitali, this was the worst round of Lewis's life, but he took those hard shots and proved that he has a solid beard.

exactly. there is no doubt in my mind that lewis would have flattened bowe within 6 rounds had they met. I think bowe would have had some moments early on as he did have some excellent skills for a big man but lewis's physical and mental strength would have overwhelmed him. bowe was soft for such a big man

lewis had the better chin. he was stronger and sturdier than bowe. bowe likely wouldnt have even got off the deck if he walked into the shots lewis walked into. they were flush as hell. bowe hadnt been knocked out becuase he didnt face anyone who could hit hard enough to expose him. rock newman knew this and protected bowe. the knowledgable boxing guys on here will agree with me on this

I agree completely. Lennox Lewis seemed to always have a mental edge over Big Daddy. Bowe looked completely discouraged and frustrated when he seemingly ceded to Lennox when they fought in Seoul for the '88 Olympics.

Bowe's bravest exhibitions came against the give and take Evander Holyfield, a smaller fighter. Lennox had so many options and knew how to outbox a guy and could kill you with one right hand. Bowe threw the belt in the garbage can because he didn't want to see another ring with Lewis in it.
