    Witter eyes unification bout

JUNIOR WITTER has set his sights on a unification bout with IBF light-welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

Witter, 33, is keen to face fellow Brit Ricky Hatton — but only after he adds Malignaggi's title to his WBC crown.

And the Hitter has told the New Yorker he will be happy to meet him on his own turf at Madison Square Garden.

Witter said: "Madison Square Garden is the ultimate place to fight.

"It would be amazing to box in the home of the sport.

"These days everybody is boxing in Las Vegas, which is absolutely brilliant and has become the new draw.

"But as a fighter who respects all the history I want to go the original home, where all the greats have fought — that would be something special.

"As far as I know, there have been talks on the management side with Malignaggi and we're just looking at when to do it.

"It would be a good fight for the British public."

Witter respects Malignaggi's ability but insists he will inflict only the second defeat of the Magic Man's career when they go toe to toe.

He added: "Malignaggi's quick, got good movement and is a hard man.

"Americans keep talking about him as their big hope — but I'll beat him."

If hatton doesn't fight malignaggi or witter next it make sense for both of them to fight each other.

The winner of this fight would be in a much better position to get that career payday from fighting the legend, Ricky Hatton.

hmm..if hatton does not fight malignaggi or witter next who does he fight?

i don't want to see him waiting until the summer before having his next fight..he needs to get back in there as soon as he can.

I think Hatton should have a real busy year IMO!

This is the kind of nonsense that has people ridiculing Witter. He isn't "happy to meet him on his own turf". He has no option but to meet Paulie on his home turf. Malignaggi has actual fans, even if they do dress like batties. Witter couldn't sell out his own front room.

Id pick Witter to upset Hatton to be honest Witter hits hard is durable aswell & above all is very awkward to fight ,Hatton would get picked of by Witter when he comes steaming in & Witter can hit hard even when being pushed back just look what he did to Forrest

i think Rikcy would look awfull against Witter & i suspect he knows that

Hatton should take an easy fight, mandatory or something to get back, Witter should fight paulie and winner fight Hatton. I hope its Witter and Hatton, that should be a great fight. I GOT WITTER ON THIS ONE!

I reckon Gavin Rees in Manchester would be the way to go. Ricky has just fought the number one in the world so it would be good to have a relatively straightforward and easy fight to get his confidence up and win his title back. Alternatively he could go for Jose Torres, who he at least wouldn't have to go looking for.

LOL too right! I think this will be in the basement of the garden not the main arena. Paulie would get more money and coverage with a Hatton fight, it would be a better event and atmosphere.
