Romanov Out, Amir Khan To Face Kristjansen

Contrary to various reports, Amir Khan (15-0, 12KOs) will not be facing EBU champion Yuri Romanov on Feb. 2 at the ExCel Arena in London. Instead, promoter Frank Warren revealed that Khan will take on Danish Martin Kristjansen (19-1-3, 5KOs), promoted by Morgens Palle, for the Vacant WBO Intercontinental lightweight title. [details]

I guess he is really trying to get a world title before he turns 22. What is with Warren and the damn WBO?

19 wins only 5 by KO, don't see Khan getting his beard tested in this bout.

oh crap! 5 ko's from 19. This is a backwards step. Annoying. Very Annoying. Warren wants this to be an eliminator as well, so he is going to send Khan in in a years time with Katsidis who hits twice as hard than the accumalitive punching power of all of his previous opponents put together. Mistake.

It should have been Romanov and Thaxton. This is crappy. It doesn't benefit Khan at all for future fights.

If the guy did not have a ranking, than we could say it is a pointless fight. However the guy is ranked #2 with the WBO, so it could be considered as a eliminator. Leaving him ranked just behind Peterson and Katsidis after he beats Kristjansen.
