Does Clottey Need To Go To 154, or...?

will 154 be too much for him? This is one of those 50/50 questions that are hard to answer. Most people would say that he would suck at 154 because he doesnt have much power even at WW and he wont have the size advantages that he does now.

I think otherwise. I think in his last few fights he looks topped out. Meaning, I think he has killed himself too many times to make weight. He looks like one of those guys that would get a boost by the extra weight. Right now it looks like he's only good for a few rounds but other guys have looked like that. The last guy was Cotto. You would think that he would be better at 140 against the smaller guys but at WW he looks much more natural, is strong for the full 12 rounds, and doesnt have to hold back. It was the same way with Hopkins at MW at the end. Thats how Clottey looks now. I also think his team knows it and thats why there trying to hurry up and get the big fights so he can quickly move up.

The problem with that is 2 fold. Most of the times you end up losing when you get the big fight because you just cant fight great at that weight anymore and then when you move up you still struggle because you waited too long. You shouldve moved up 2 years ago. Thats what I said the whole time about both Chico & Castillo. If the fools had moved up like 3 years prior then it wouldve been much better for there bodies but they killed themselves so long to stay at 135 that by time they moved up in made no difference. Chico stayed down so long that he was so big that he had to skip 140 and go straight to WW. Most thought Castillo had to go straight to WW also but he managed to barely make 140 and look like garbage. If they had moved up like 3 years prior then they both couldve moved to 140 naturally, stayed there for awhile and then finish at 147.

Cotto and his team was smart. As good as he was at 140 and as good as the people were that he beat, he still never fought Floyd or Hatton. If he had fought them then he probally wouldve lost because he just couldnt be fully strong for 12 rounds like he is at WW. Thats what Clottey should do. He should just go right now to 154. Its probally already to late for him but its his only chance. If not he's going to lose anyway when he gets the big fight and then look like crap at 154

**** no. His best shot is to beat on these guys at WW.

At 154 he doesn't have much of a shot. Spinks would work him. Karmazin would work him. Alcine would work him. Simms would work him.

clottey just isnt strong enough for 154 period

he is a war of attrition fighter, at 154 he loses his strength and durability advantages and really has nothing else to fall back on

basically the question should be " should clottey run like a ***** to a different weight class and try to hand pick a title shot?"

Maybe you guys are right but he's not going to beat any of the top WW's the way he is fighting right now. He's topping out. I think the weight loss is killing him and really starting to hurt him

the built in excuse is that Cotto should be fighting Williams & vice versa. He talks about everyone except Williams. He's only picking Clottey because they think he's the easiest matchup for Cotto out of all the top WW's. I still think Clottey gives him hell and may beat him. I dont want him too though because I want to see him undefeated when he fights Floyd

Moving up for Clottey is like moving up for Quartey. He just needs to learn how to pace himself better. I think a fight with Quartey is great for Clottey, two similar styles and both guys throw quantity,a nd it will give the winner a lot of credibility. Herman Ndoujo fights the same way and can move up to fight CLottey after he fights Malignaggi.
