Mikkel Kessler: "I've got 5-6 fights left in me"

He's still hungry for winning those Championship Belts back, that after 12 tough rounds in Cardiff didn't come back home with him on the plane after the big title fight against Joe Calzaghe in November. But Mikkel Kessler dosen't have alot of chances left to regain the Championship Belts, because the menu dosen't offer alot of boxing fights for the 28 year old dane in these up coming years.

"I'd say, that I've probaly have five-six fights to go. But it all depends on how things will go. Because if you lose number two, and everything goes bad, then you probaly don't want to continue"

The danish boxer has considered retirement before, but this time there seems to be more behind the boxers words

"I've got some really good people around me, and they've said, that training is so hard on my body, that I need to relax a little. I can't just ruin myself, so I gotta walk around as an 40-50 year old man and have pain all kinds of places, that's not worth it," says Kessler.

That's a shame if he isn't up to fighting into his mid 30s, personally i think he could walk the SM division now that Joe has moved onto Light Heavyweight.

Easily the best fighter Calz has fought since Eubank IMO.

Personally I didn't think Kessler was ever going to lose at one stage in his career, over the past years he has become a fairly big name, not exactly one of the greats but a very successful and dominant fighter, I wish him all the best and hope he fights for years to come.

to be honest i think Kessler will get his second loss by the end of 2008. And its going to shock a lot of you who he is going to loose to.

Hes a fantastic fighter though. His style which relies on power, im not to sure he could maintain it for that long anyway. But i hope he does he really is a treat to watch.

Mikkel Kessler is a good fighter. People like to say he's robotic or too ordinary, but he's a versatile fighter that can do more then just throw a left jab and straight right. I thought he was game against Calzaghe, he can still dominate the SMW division, and maybe get a belt in LHW. I don't see many too fighters beating him in the SMW division, not Edison Miranda, not Jean Pascal, Kelly Pavlik, Lucian Bute, or up and coming fighters such as Andy Lee and Peter Quillin.

guys like mundine aint his class either, maybe inkin, bute, froch could give him a test but i doubt they'd be able to live with his strengh and power.

Aside from Kessler Mundine is the most complete fighter, and im 100% sure that on his night, with increased agression he could take a close UD from Kessler. But the guy fights cab drivers, and is a wasted talent so its probably not even worth talking about him.

I see his biggest danger as Bute. But still Kessler has enough fire power to overcome him. He would stop Inkin and Froch aswell.

Behave. Mundine isn't in the same class as Kessler.

I'm surprised he's talking about retirement. How old is he, 28? I know some fighters take defeat badly but that's a bit extreme.

My money's on him winning the vacant belts back in the next couple of fights and staying on for a few more years to dominate the division - even against the likes of Pavlik and Taylor. I can't see much to trouble him in and around 168.

Not really so much, he out boxed Mundine. JC is a great fighter and is very hard to out box.

Who will beat Kessler by the end of 2008 then?
