The WBC heavyweight title matchup between champion Oleg Maskaev and interim titleholder Samuel Peter is now scheduled for March 8 and tentatively slated to take place outdoors in a soccer stadium at Cancun. Originally plans called for the bout to take place February 2 and be televised by SHOWTIME. TV plans are not finalized for the new date and the card could land on SHOWTIME or HBO.

2 weeks before Maskaev's 39th birthday and 15 months since his last fight. I think Peter has this one in the bag.

It's actually 6 day's AFTER his 39th birthday. For a boxer that old, every week counts

Maskaev doesn't care about the career anymore.. it's just a money fight...

But he should still try to win and cash in on Vitali's return.

Well Peter showed that his chin is a bit vulnerable in that last fight against McCline, so Oleg has a puncher's chance, or he could outwork him in the later rounds. I'm not holding my breath on a Vitali return.

Maskaev's inactivity at 39 will be a telling factor but Peter was far from convincing in his last outing. I'm less confident of a Peter win than I was three months ago but he'll still have enough for a win. I say Peter by UD in a fight that I'm looking forward to.

i dont think maskaevs inactivity is as much a negative factor as you guys are making it out to be.... if it werent for all the horse**** with vitali he woulda fought long ago... and no reason for a 39 year old to take unnecessary fights in the meantime.

i think he will give peter a tough fight, but i do expect him to lose

If Peter outworks him... Maskaev will get KOed.
                I don't see Peter winning a decision..
