I think Hattons best work was actually done on the outside in the early part of the fight, some argue that this is due to the constant intervention by Cortez. But in the later rounds, when Cortez became less involved and allowed more in-fighting, it was Mayweather who landed more frequently and with the harder punches inside. This is generally the reason its been stated that Mayweather "beat Hatton at his own game" due to having the greater success on the inside overall.
If this is the case, would it be correct to assume that if Cortez had been less involved in the early part of the fight, allowing more fighting on the inside, Mayweather would have landed more uppercuts than he did (his most successful inside punch in the fight) and therefore he may have stopped Hatton even sooner?
Did Cortez actually help or hinder Hatton in this fight? If he'd allowed more inside fighting Mayweather would have landed a greater number of clean inside shots, and Hatton would have thrown more, and probably missed more. Did the early intervention by Cortez favor Hatton more than Mayweather?
The two obvious flaws Cortez exhibited (at least to my eyes) were the point deduction for Hatton and the lack of a point deduction for Floyd, after at least 6 repeated warnings. But the breaking up of the action, I wonder if ultimately that prolonged the fight for Hatton.
