... I'm always one to hold my hands up and admit when I was wrong, and the biggest problem I had with him - the personality - I'm starting to realise I was off base with that.
I do think it's a bad role model for kids, and I don't like to see little smack-talking punks on here putting his bad words in their sigs and thinking it's "cool" (I mean, do you really want your favourite boxer to talk about wanting to anally **** another man... wtf???) but I now realise that it's a very clever persona to sell the fights. I know, I know... it's obvious. But the guy is GOOD at playing the obnoxious prick, isn't he?
I'm also glad he tied up the loose end of 140. As a long time fan of boxing I'm automatically resistent to talk of "multi weight" champs when most of those weight catergories didn't exist in yesteryear, so it would have been literally impossible for olden day boxers to match it. Also, the proliferation of multi alphabet titles has meant that there can be four "world" champs at any time, meaning that being "world" champ in "multiple divisions" can really count for ****, when you think about it. Floyd's brief stay at 140 saw him win a "world" title against a shot to pieces Gatti, and take on Bruseles, Mitchell and Corley. Regardless of whether or not Mayweather could "pwn" Hatton, The Paler had legitimately earnt the right to be the recognised champ at 140, and so that match HAD to be made to legitimise him being a champ at that weight. (Okay, they didn't fight at 140, but that's immaterial in this case, IMO). It was a loose end, as was Baldomir until that got made, even though Baldi was even less of a threat, and even less of a legitimate "man" in the division.
Anyway, I'm rambling, you get my point.
